Mum got her results after double mastectomy
Mum got her results after double mastectomy Hi All,
Mum got her results today. Apparently the double mastectomy was good it was done as she had 2 tumours in each breast. in one breast a stage 1&3 in the other a stage 2&3. There were hormone receptive so will be taking tablets for 5-10 years and will not need radiotherapy maybe chemo but need to see the doc next week as they’ll weigh up risk of reoccurence to the effects on her body - She has a stomache problem - Colitis, underactive thyroid, start of a cateract and arthristis - does anyone know if this will affect her having chemo.
She also had one lymph node affected on the right side which the doc said with the type of tumours is good- Is this true?
I feel bizarre as we have the results and don’t know how to feel as don’t know what it means! I had the scene mapped out in my head “We’ve got it, thats it - no more treatment - you’ll get recontsruction and that’ll be your lot - Back to normality” if only life was that simple.
I’m scared again - What does it mean - Why is everything medical sooo confusing, scary, unpredictable and alien. Was asked if I had questions but how do you say In my normal think persons terms what are you saying!!
Can anyone out there shed some light or give me some hope/reality?
They gave me chemo with underactive thyroid, arthritis and IBS plus gut lining thinning from years on NSAIDS.
Encourage your Mum to try chemo and if necessary to push for it as chemo kills cancer cells with no ifs and buts. There’s an element of luck in prescribing the right chemo for the individual but it worked for me so they must get it right- and if one chemo doesn’t look as if it’s working they can switch to another.
My area is stingy with chemo so go with your Mum to next onc clinic and be prepared to battle if necessary. Don’t let yourself be put off by the only one percent benefit cop out- it’s the odd ca cell or two that got away which cause bigtime trouble along the line.
Best wishes to both of you, dilly
For Dilly It’s interesting you say our area is stingy with chemo. I was told that it would benefit me by less than 1%, as would herceptin.
Surely lymph node involvement/vascular invasion must come into the equation? Fortunately, I had neither, so hope it was the right decision just to go with surgery, rads and tamoxifen.
So far, so good, but only time will tell.
