Mum to see Breast consultant
Mum to see Breast consultant My Mum is 80 years old and we visited her GP on Tuesday because she has a very inverted nipple and a hard lump at the top of her breast. My Gran (mums mum had breast and stomach cancer). I have had a mastectomy in 2005 for DCIS. Mum is adamant that she doesn’t want treatment/ surgery for this due to her general health ( she is quite frail). We decided to visit the GP because of the history I have described above and whether it increases the risk of Br . Cancer occuring again for me in my remaining breast. The decisiion to go was because I do have a fibroadenoma and microcalcifications in my left breast which my consultant is keeping his eye on. I have also noticed changes around my areola and have a sore nipple but my consultant cannot find anything after further biopsies and MRI scan + mammogram.
My problem is that I wish I had not seen this problem with her breast or asked her to see the GP because I now feel physically sick when i think about it. I am feeling quite guilty and wonder if I should have stayed quiet about things and just let nature take its course.
Lavinia NEVER sit on your hands and let nature take its course. Knowledge is power- to make choices to deal with probs.
You need to feel you are steering your own boat - better than being taken willy nilly to an unknown destination.
Serious chat with medics shrinks uninformed fear- so go ahead and find out what’s what and available help- if you need it.
Hope you don’t, best wishes, dilly
