mx after chemo...results tomorrow

Ive finished chemo and just had a mx. I dont even know why they gave me chemo first except that it was NOt to shrink any tumour because I had a lumpectomy back in July (the margins weren’t clear so…)
Anyway, now I have an appointment for my “results” for what they found in the tissue (Nodes & breast) that they removed.
But, Im falling apart now, wondering what these results could be…
I mean if the chemo has worked there shouldn’t be anything (any cancer) left…should there?
The thought that the chemo hasn’t worked is almost too much to bear…
Has anyone else experienced this sequence of events, or have any insight, I wonder?

Hi Tree
Can’t give you an insight but I had chemo first and mx last week, so looks like I’m a week behind you and can understand where you’re at. I’m already terrified about going for my results next week.

The impression I got from ‘chemo first’ was because they already know about the lymph node involvement. I should have had mx and immediate recon back in July but they did SLNB and found the lymph nodes were involved (4/4) so they did chemo first, they said had I opted for mx without recon they would do the SLNB with the mx to avoid two ops and then it would have been chemo after, kind of makes sense really, but doesn’t stop you worrying does it! I guess as you had already had a lumpectomy they already knew what was in there which is probably why you got chemo first too?
I too was really frightened by it all and probably still am to some extent as we seem to be in the minority but then again I guess we have to trust those in the know ehh!
Always something to worry aboutwith bc isn’t there. I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve asked them will I need more chemo after only to be told no, you won’t, just rads and Tamoxifen, but you do worry don’t you!

Hope you’re recovering well from the op.

Good luck and all the best for tomorrow…

The meeting will also give you the chance to talk about how you’re feeling after the surgery, and to let them check that things are healing up the way they expect.

Fingers crossed for lots of clear explanations for you tomorrow, and a smooth route forwards.

Thanks very much for your replies.
D, it’s good to know someone who is having similar treatment order. Hope you are recovering well from surgery also.
Think I was just having a bit of a meltdown this afternoon, sometimes it just all gets a bit too much for me (im sure you all know what I mean) and it’s been going on since July now, so Im just really really tired of coping etc.
Thank you very much for you wise and calming words.
