My hair!

It has been 2 yrs since my last chemo and my hair has been growing for just under two years.
I hate it! It is thin, frizzy and unmanageable - i am at a loss what to do with it any longer.
I have tried taking biotin and horsetail tablets to strengthen it, i eat nuts and seeds like a bird daily, and use various serums and products to ty and tame it and but too no avail.
I can’t cope with horrid hair and a reconstructed breast i hate with no nipple!
Help someone please…
Naz

Anyone?

Naz,
I’m so sorry to read your distress and sorry your post seems to have got lost on the new site too!
I’m afraid I have no words of wisdom for you. My hair came back curly, which I actually liked but on first cut the curls disappeared! I am lucky in that my hair has grown back thickly but it does seem much more brittle and frizzy.I do hope that someone can come along with some useful tips.
As for your nippleless breast, do the medics know how you feel? Is there a possibility of having a nipple? Maybe, as the forums are still in havoc, you might benefdit from phoning the helpline and talking, I’ve heard they are very good.
You do sound so upset and fe-up and I really do sympathise and wish I could do something but all I can do is let you know you are ‘listened’ to on here, and send you a big cyber hug,Julie x

Hi Naz, I know what you are going through with your hair, I finished FEC last August and my hair has grown back thick, grey, curly and coarse!!! I have been using vitapointe leave in conditioner which helps a little, I have liver mets so I don’t want to go back to using hair dye, my solution is to keep it short, try having a chat to your hairdresser and see what they come up with. :~)

Morning Naz
My iphone wont let me post so had to wait till i could get on here, Mine too was very grey and fuzzy i hated it so i went to my hair dresser and we put 20% vol bleach on it so went from a long haired dark chocolate to bald to grey fuzzy and then blonde i love it I finished Chemo Nov and rads in Jan i am on Tamoxifen and Herceptain Now.
I love my new look and yes there was a risk doing it but i said to myself its horrid as it is and if it falls out well i always got the wig to fall back on been there done that, Luckly it was ok my head was a bit sore from the bleach. i am off for my roots done today. I use wax (shock waves) to tame the frizzy mop Hope my story helps

Hello Naz

Do you have a Toni & Guy studio near to you? They have stylists trained by Macmillan Cancer who can give you advice about your hair. The service is called Strength in Style. They are really good.

I’m halfway through chemo and I had my hair cut and dyed two weeks ago, (using the cold cap). There is hardly any hair coming out, just what I would expect normally!

Can’t help you with your recon though, but It must be awful when you’re not happy. Hopefully having my recon this time next year.

Good luck
Hugs and xxxx

Hi, My hair just starting to appear after 4 x fec , starting to get itchy again . i am hoping mine comes back thick this time but knowing my luck with come back orange and curly . I am just glad my hair coming back . I had my no nipple on my recon boob , but my hospital offered a tatoo on it , which is redone every three years . Looks really good .I had my recon over ten years ago now Have a good evening Love Rosie xx

Thanks for all your tips and comments…
I went to the hair dressers today and she gave it a trim and styled it nicely for me.
I bought some Morroccan Oil and a conditioning pack - so heopfully it will stay in good condition until the next cut…
Julie - i may ring the helpline (i have done in the past) . I am still struggling with the recon tbh, it is taking ages to come to terms with, i don’t know why, but it is…
The scarring is a constant reminder for me, and it just feels odd…

Anyway, thanks once again
Naz x
