My head is spinning

Hi everyone newbie here…I was diagnosed in February with breast cancer had a mastectomy with lymph node removal on the 4th April discharged the next day when another disaster I had a stroke I’m 49 and I just can’t seem to take it all in I’m an emotional wreck at the moment luckily I have a very loving and supportive family around me xx

Hi,

Welcome and I am so incredibly sorry to hear that. Sending you hugs and love. How are you doing as far as your stroke is concerned? X

Thanks for the reply as far as the stroke I’m making a good recovery still very weak on left side and have trouble doing simple tasks, emotionally not so good and I’m seriously considering some counselling to help me come to terms with it all x

Oh Karen you poor love, what an awful thing to happen on top of everything else you are dealing with, it’s no wonder you are reeling, I’m so pleased to hear you have a lovely family to look after And can only imagine the stress you must all be under, wishing you a speedy recovery Xx Jo

Oh Karen such a lot to deal with. Obviously I don’t know how badly your stroke has affected you but I’ve known a few people around me who’ve had strokes in their forties & have made a full recovery. As regards counselling, it certainly can’t do any harm & sometimes talking to someone other than family or friends can be very helpful. Wishing you all the best my heart really does go out to you. Anita xx

Karen, what a lot to go though in such a short space of time.

With regards to counselling, I think Macmillan can advise on that. Not sure where you are in the UK but The Haven offers counselling support to people with BC or recovering from treatment. If you don’t live close to one of their centres then they can offer advice by phone: thehaven.org.uk/

You don’t have to limit your talk with them to BC - I spent a lot of my first session talking about a serious illness my husband had several years ago and how it had affected me. I have found the counselling very useful so far.

Good luck and be kind to yourself. Let us know how you get on.

Ruth xx

Thank you everyone for the replies I spoke with my breast care nurse today who has been a fantastic help and gave me some info on support groups. The stroke affected my left side but I seem to be getting stronger everyday although a little clumsy (my family have said no more than usual lol) I now have strict orders to rest and just take one day at a time xx
