Hi Faye

Sorry to hear of your Mum’s dx. It’s hard for everyone when someone gets cancer confirmed. I was dx in Jan and had surgery a week later to remove lump and node sampling (didn’t have the dye injection) and am now 30 rads down 10 to go. It’s tough but we get through it.

You will get loads of support here and there is no such thing as a stupid question … if you want to know about something just ask and usually someone can offer an answer.

Hi Faye and welcome to the Breast Cancer Care forums.

I am sorry to read about your Mum’s recent diagnosis and can appreciate that you are very worried about her. I am sure that your fellow forum members will continue with valuable support and advice, you are also welcome to call our freephone confidential helpline for a chat with one of our specialist nurses. The nurses can talk to you about the concerns you have along with ideas of support for you and your Mum, the number to call is 0808 800 6000 Mon-Fri 9am-5pm and Sat 9am-2pm.

Best wishes
Lucy

Hi Faye

Sorry to hear about your mums diagnosis.

You will be all over the place at the moment. I was diagnosed in feb and had a lumpectomy and was lucky no lymph node involvement. Iam on tamoxifen for 5 years I have just started RADs today and yes I agree it is unfair for us all.

Try to be strong for your Mum on this journey there are so many treatments now and we all different.!!!

BC seems to affect women of all ages I thought I was young (47) but browsing these forums has made me realise it can happen to anyone!!!

Best wishes and good luck to your mum

Love Kay x

dye shows up the lymph node or nodes which cancer is most likely to spread to, if it has started to spread outside the original lump. If your mother is having this test they can avoid taking out more lymph nodes if the cancer hasn’t started moving. Most people who have this test have smallish lumps which are less likely to have caused spread anywhere else.

I hope your mother has the minimum of treatment, but it usually involves an operation and some further treatment, each person’s treatment is tailored to the biology of the cells the doctors find,

Hi Faye, Sorry about you mum! I’m in the same position as you, except my mum is 64 and i’m 1967!! My mum goes in on Tuesday for her lumpectomy and lymph node removal. I agree it is hard to know what to do for the best. I sometimes pick up the phone to ring, and then think…no I only rang 3 hours ago. Then If I don’t ring for a day- she might think I don’t care, and I desperately do! There’s no manual for dealing with this dreadful disease. In the first 2 weeks after hearing the dx I have gone right down to the worst case scenario, but feeling more positive now, so hopefully once you have gotten over the initial shock, your life will regain some clarity. The worst thing is the waiting around, just hoping for the best outcome, and if you can get your head round that it makes things a little easier. My dad is now also waiting for results to see if he has prostate cancer!! ( 3rd May!!), so i’ll worry about that if it happens. In the meantime, keep smiling if you can, and remember there are lots of lovely ladies on this site for support. I will let you know how mum gets on, as your mum will be going through the same… and if you ever want a long vent… put it all on here. I log on regularly and might be able to help a bit.

Take care

Nikki

Good evening Nikki

Sorry to hear that your mum has been dx too. I hope her treatment goes well. I will also keep my fingers crossed that your Dad get sthe all clear. It’s bad enuff one person in the family going through it without another having to join them… but I’ve heard of lots of families where there are 2 or 3 members with different cancers.

Hope you manage to keep positive and as you said to Faye you will get loads of support on this site.

Thankyou for all the support it means so so much, reading your stories are so inspiering.
She has her radiation dye injection on the 28th, so will post when I know more.
Thanks you all again take care
