my reconstruction was botched

I had a MX to my right breast in July. I had previous cosmetic breast inplants & the surgeon left in my original implant after the MX rather than use an expander.

The plan was to exchange the implant for a larger one at a later date & do a mastppexy to my left side for symmetery.

Had my reconstruction on 3rd October. It was  a surgeon I had never seen before ( new to te team). She thought I had an expander in & thought she was doing one side. I explained the plan to her. She proceeded to tell me that she did not have the correct implants but would would go ahead as there would be only 100cc difference which probably would not be noticeable. Bear in mind, I get married in Jamaica on 11th November ( fly on the 7th). I was panicking at this point & really upset. I signed the consent & went to theatre.

OMG…I looked at my breasts afterwards & there was 2 cup sizes difference. She had put a 360 implant in each side !! I originally had in 300cc implants, but obviously I still had breast tissue as well in my left side. I looked deformed. This was supposed to give me symmetery & I looked worse.

I asked for a complaint form & requested to se my original surgeon. I got an appointmnet on 8th October. He admitted that the surgery should not have been done & that the surgeon “may have panicked due to her lack of experience”. He basically held his hands up & said it was unacceptable.

My reconstruction has now been done again on 17th October. I have had the right implant exchanged & my left breast lifted. They at least look the same size now, but the right one needs to drop & the swelling needs to go down.

This has been horrendous. I feel so tierd & sore. Two ops in 2 weks is too much. We fly to Jamaica for our wedding in just over 2 weeks. I wont be able to do things on honeymoon that I wanted to do. Swimming wiht dolphins, scuba diving & rafting are not possible now. I should have been 5 weks post op when we flew & the activities would have been possible then. I will now be 3 weeks post op. I couls not have gone away how I was though as I could not even have worn my wedding dress.

Had my surgery not been botched & been done correctly the first time, all would have been fine. I feel so let down by it all.

Sorry for the essay, but just wanted to tell someone who would understand.

That is just awful. Awful doesn’t even justify it. I would go and see a lawyer if I was you because you deserve compensation as well as to get that surgeon some sort of disciplinary for her negligance. There’s nothing really anyone can say to make you feel better. But I have been to Jamaica and can tell you that although you had plans for activities, when you get there, you will be happy to chill and relax. I was! There are loads of things that you CAN do. Get on line and have a look at other activities. Go on a boat to see the dolphins. It’s great to go alongside them in a boat you can see them react with eachother - in their natural habitat. Much better I think. Take a trip to Ricks Cafe - it’s on a cliff top. You can spend a whole day there eating jerk chicken and watch the sun set - most amazing sight I have ever seen. I didn’t do scuba diving or anything but if you walk out into the sea a bit, you can see many different types of sealife just standing in the water. And don’t forget a hammock at the back of the beach and a rum and coke. Amazing.

You’ve had a crappy thing happen, but don’t let it ruin your wedding or your holiday. i bet you have a great time!
