Not sure where to post this but have found a small pea-sized lump on side of my neck on the same side as I had the lumpectomy. Anyone with any similar problems who can shed light on it please? Its not painful, but has only appeared in the last week. I have tried ringing to speak to the registrar I normally see on my once a year check-ups but no-one there today cause of the snow. Not sure whether to go see my GP or whether I should wait and see if it gets bigger or just goes away. Trying not to be paranoid!
Wouldnt be too alarmed normally, but they do always focus on neck and shoulders when I go for my annual check-up. Any thoughts anyone?
With anything like that after a primary diagnosis, go get it checked out, it may well be nothing or an inflammed lymph node for a number of reasons, but early GP appointments are key. So make that call first thing in the morning and let us know. Or go straight to oncologist, ring up the secretary and they are usually very helpful.
I discovered a similar lump under my armpit same side as WLE about 2 weeks ago. I phoned the breast cancer nurse who got me an appointment quickly.
In fact it was today. Doctor says my lump is just an enlarged sweat gland and is a side effect of radiotherapy. But he said I did the right thing to get it checked out
Spoke to the Research Nurse today and she has arranged for me to see one of my onc’s registrars next Tuesday. Fingers crossed that it is nothing too sinister, will let you know. Thanks for the support!
Saw onc today and after exam said she will send me for an ultra sound of neck. She said it is an inflamed muscle (Huh?) in my neck she thinks but to be certain the US will confirm. Well at least its nothing invasive and should be having it in about a week’s time. So far so good I guess!
Hiya, Been looking here today to see if you would post an update. Really pleased the doctor is sending you for US.
Since I saw my doctor last week about the lump under my arm, I’ve been wishing I had asked for further tests. He just felt the lump and came up with his diagnosis of enlarged sweat gland, side effect of radiotherapy!
Also Im wondering why dont they just biopsy the lump.
Hi wisps, I am in the same boat as you, I was at the hospital on Monday for my check up, I too have a lump in my neck on one of my lymph glands on the opposite side of my breast cancer and I am now patiently waiting on my appt for ultrasound, fingers crossed for both of us
Hi Gocat, I would definitely get a second check on your underarm lump - I’m sure they could do ultrasound like me just to put your mind at rest. Don’t want to alarm you but when I was diagnosed I had a lump in my breast and then three or four weeks later found a lump under my arm which was a cancerous lymph node.
I have lost a bit of confidence in what they tell you when just feeling the lump as they told me that I definitely had a fibroadanoma and it was not cancer in my breast - when I got my diagnosis of cancer, the onc registrar who told me said ‘Well, we were surprised’ - not as much as me as it was Grade 3 and invasive!!
I guess they can only do so much without proper tests like US and biopsies, if only to put your mind at rest I would push for more tests if you are still unhappy.
So sorry to hear you are in the same boat as me. They dont seem to think mine is a lymph node, but we shall see. Keep in touch and let me know how you get on.
Hi. Ladies.I had a mx on left side 2008.The night before Christmas eve i found two lumps in my right breast,PANIC stricken.got them checked last week at clinic, was told inflamed lymph nodes given antibiotic but i forgot to tell them i also have a lump in my neck the same side as mx.mind was all over the place not seeing them till 29th Jan not sure if i should phone them and mention it or wait.Ang
Ang, the strange thing about my neck lump was that my surgeon found it last June when he done my second operation, I have been fobbed off constantly, when I went for my check up the other day, I had to insist that it was checked out because it is annoying me and I know it shouldnt be there, better be safe than sorry
Hi - i noticed a swelling in my neck on the op side to my mx in november… i went for an ultrasound and couldn’t find anything…
one suggestion was the rads on my bad side had caused that side to shrink slightly - which was making the good side seem larger not sure if you had rads to your neck area carol…
i’ve been told to keep an eye on it and it just seems to have stayed the same…
but it is a good idea to mention it to your teams incase it is something…
thanks Theresa, its a small pee size lump, I didnt even know it was there, it was my surgeon who found it, but it is annoying me and I cant get to the end of my journey until its defo nothing, I had rads after they found it and it didnt affect it in any way
once I know its nothing, better think about going back to work, I have been off since last May!!!

Why would your liver cause a pain in your neck? The reason I ask is that I have had neck pain for some time, before diagnosis, although it did improve after surgery for a while, as I had to sleep on my back. I just put it down to stress, or wear and tear, but now you make me wonder, as it is painful again now.
Hi Ann
The secondarys in my liver cause the liver to enlatge and the nerve endings press against the rib cage apparently cause pain in the shoulder its called deferred pain, i had a shoulder xray and it didnt show anything , so i had an ultrasound on my liver and thats when it showed secondarys.
