Doxey and Carol
Thank you for sharing your good news stories. I’m really happy for you and I hope to be posting on this thread next year with my NED story.

Its great to hear so many positives.Got my first post treatment mammogram result and its clear. As I was diagnosed grade 3 triple negative ( I had a lumpectomy which was infected for 6 weeks,6 FEC and 15 rads)only seven years to go!
Just redesigned part of my large garden and will have to stick around to see it mature!

Ladies this is a lovely uplifting thread and thank you for sharing your NED stories I will be saving this to my profile. Jackie

Great idea for a category.

I’m 5 years post dx.

Keep bumping this up!

Only today i was wandering around thinking i wonder if there may be some stories of NED on the web site. i was feeling down and thought this might cheer me up,went on the web site and there it was!! lost it 'cause my computer crashed and struggled to re find it…upset 'cause i hadn’t read it all!
no idea how to put on profile, but would like to??
anyway i was first diagnosed 7 years ago with grade 1 stage 1, then 2years 2 months ago with grade 1 stage 4 (in my liver.) but at present NED in liver. so in my 9th year in total.long may it continue!

Hi Noz I have just worked out how to do it. If you ar logged in ou open the thread and then click on ‘save discussion to my profile’ which is in the pink bar at the top on the right,
Sarah

Well done Anne, what a brillantly positive idea. It will help so many of the ladies on here I’m sure. Its what you want to read about especially when you are first diagnosed. I can remember listing all the people, famous or otherwise, that had had bc and who were several years down the line and clinging on to that. Good on you.

Chris x

Happy to post that im coming up to my 5th anniversary in September. Even happier to be NED at this stage. Long may it continue. Wishing everyone on BCC could be so fortunate.

Well done Ann - we really need positive posts.it’s the first one I click onto now.Looking forward to my first mammogram ( which will be clear!) and becoming fully fledged member. Stephanie

This is a great thread! haven’t read it all but I think there should be a whole new category in the left hand navigation of this site called ‘Good news’ or similar, with sub categories like: ‘2 years since primary diagnosis’, ‘5 years since primary diagnosis’ and ‘10 years since secondary diagnosis’ etc. Nice and obvious to give both newbies and regulars hope and inspiration, every time they visit the forum.

Excuse me if this has been suggested before or if I’m geeking out, can’t help it as I’m a web/interaction designer by trade! Anyway I think it’s really important we have easy access to all the success stories as there are plenty out there.

I’ve tried to cross-reference it both ways but there was a “!” character in the title,

Hi everyone

Just to let you know that I have been reading your posts and I’m just putting together a brief survey to get people’s views on having a section for positive news etc.

I have no idea why the thread doesn’t come up when you search for “NED” and I’m really sorry it doesn’t. For the meantime, if you keep posting a lot here, it’ll always come up in latest posts and you can always save it to your profile as people have said above. I know it’s not perfect, but it’s what we have at the moment.

As I say, I’m working on a survey on the broader point, and I’ll post it as soon as it is ready.

with best wishes

Leah

Thanks Leah!! Do post that survey when it’s ready, and please bear in mind the suggestion of an “encouragement” thread for any with secondaries and stable disease even if they aren’t NED. Maybe could have an optional question whether the respondent has secondaries or not. VERY important to know there’s “life after” for someone who has mets dx at same time or very soon after primary diagnosis… it happened to me.

Oh yes I second Mrs Blue.
Hi Leah, yes please do consider an encouragement slot for those of us with secondaries. I still post here after all this time to try to help others through their newly diagnosed stage 4 status and those stage 4 facing tough days and tough decisions.
And yes there are quite a number of us diagnosed stage 4 from the very beginning or shortly after.

Hi everyone

The survey is ready and you can find it here zapsurvey.com/Survey.aspx?id=29c1cad5-4c65-4e32-9e6a-65f97214c164 (I will also post it under “Your Views” to make sure other people can find it, probably later today).

It’s a survey about the broader area of having a space for sharing positive news, as I think a “no evidence of disease” or “anniversaries and checking back in” thread would sit better within that kind of space than as a whole topic by itself. We have to be careful of adding lots of very specific new topics, as it can make the forum difficult to navigate.

But, there’s space for you to tell me what you think in the survey. If there are any problems with the survey, do let me know.

Thanks
Leah

I am sure you can see from the response that this would be a popular category. It needs to be easy for first-timers to find. When I was first diagnosed, I wanted to know that there was hope. So many of the users have current problems and it gives the impression that a recurrence is almost inevitable.

My idea was that, even after people have moved on with their lives and no longer post, they would feel encouraged to come back once a year to let others know that they are still ok - so I wondered if you could have year bands, say, 1 - 5, 6 - 10, etc. I think this would be clearer, as otherwise the stories just get muddled together and you cannot see a specific trend.

Also, there should be sub-categories for positive stories from those with recurrences and secondaries.

Thanks for putting the survey together Leah, like Ann says this thread has had such a good response and i think many members would welcome this section on the forums, it can be very frightening living with BC and all of us here need those positive stories when we are having a tough time .
I agree that there should be an encouragement thread also for those who have a reocurrence or secondaries , everyone of us here wherever we are in our DX needs this kind of support.
All the best to everyone

I´ve found the forum an absolute blessing as living in Spain , there just is´nt the presonal touch of a breast cancer nurse to ask , and as we all know there are so many questions on first diagnosis , and before ,when you first realise there is a problem . It is so frightening .
You hear that dreaded word and immediately you think it´s a death sentence . Joining the forum , even if you only read and don´t participate you find that it´s not true , that there is life after BC , and also you can learn to laugh at some of the things that happen to you , and you can laugh with others as they recount their experiences .
There are days when you need to read the good , positive stories and think …“thats going to be me soon .”
Kris

Ann, you have made a very valuable suggestion here. When first dx, I did like Chris (laurasue) and looked all over the internet for survivor stories. Then I went through a down phase along the lines you decribe above, where I thought recurrence was more or less inevitable. I think the different options in the left hand menu, as scareyfox suggests, would be a great idea.
Well done you for starting this thread !

Love

Anna xx
