Went to bed at 1am this morning - face was very flushed and I felt pretty grotty. Tried having my favourite drink of guiness and it tasted horrible so off I went with glass of water and hot water bottle. Indigestion is plaguing me at the moment. Not only does everything taste a bit off but it also gives me heart burn! Not fair!! Didn’t get much sleep but stayed in bed after everyone had gone to work and managed a couple of hours. Didn’t get up until noon (lazy lazy) and then put in some washing and did a quick “flylady” task that only took 10 mins and made me feel like I had actually done something!
Hospital had run out of Difflam mouthwash this week so had to ring GP to get some on prescription. Doctor had to ring me personally as I haven’t seen him for a while. He kept calling me princess and told me to have a wonderful weekend. Prescription ready in 5 mins but surgery is a 20 minute drive away and it is dark and raining outside! Solution? Rang Asda Pharmacy (5 mins drive away) and they are going to collect prescription and I can collect on Monday (or more likely send OH to pick up)
Also washed out my faithful feather duster today - found the poor bedraggled thing lying on the decking in the back garden where I must have taken it to flick off all the spider webs when we had the last BBQ. Poor thing looked like a drowned rat - first time I’ve used my hairdryer in months!! and viola! my feather duster is restored to former glory.
As you can tell - steroids not totally left me yet - as I am nattering on about total rot! Feeling very fatigued now - must be time to lie down on the settee and watch more cookery programmes.
And…I have a craving for a BIG MAC! now that is heartburn in a bun!
Enjoy the weekend ladies - and let me know if you want a personal message writing on a Sky Lantern for tomorrow night as I have 10 that will be let off into the night skies. Wire free and eco friendly ones of course. Visit me in the Dark Dark Woods thread for more info or just send me a message.
Hi supertrouper I am sure rest of butterflies would agree if you put the message from them at last we are starting to find ourselves again and prayers and good wishes to everyone who has or has had b.c xxx
Hello Taxers! Flakey feet! I was lucky and got off very lightly with the TAX side effects - i found it a welcome relief from AC and actually felt really well, no pain, nails fine etc but got the flakey feet thing on my final TAX. So weird! My chemo nurse told me I should have been moisturising my feet diligently all the way through…but nobody had told me that!! Anyway, started moisturising, all of the hard skin peeled off and I was left with baby soft feet. Better than one of those fishy pedicures!
It was the whole of the skin on the ball of one foot extending into my toes and a bit towards my heel! Didn’t hurt and have been moisturising daily and wearing socks all the time. Had some peeling after 1st TAX but seems to have gone into overdrive now…
oh wow… iv been having pains in my heels and the heels of my hands… dunno what that bit of your hand is called… so wonder if that related… i thought it was join aches just radiating in a different direction.
Tax Wed, now unable to sleep, even though using various cds etc so reading some buddhist stuff on Meta Loving Kindness,My OH brings me communion daily from mass to keep me away from bugs,it really is a nice interlude together and brought from the Mass I usually go to with a plethora of grey heads but lovely people, didnt get it today because spent most of today and last evening in Hospital whilst they looked for a leg DVT,none found yet,Deo Gratias, back next week for another doppler on the leg,got enough stuff floating in the system, dont need a clot,TA.
Constipation back so a double dose of my magnesium oxide powder, usually magic, got Onc permission to use it.
Fellow flybaby Supertrouper and Reiki Healer am currently researching the Healing Code by Loyd and Johnson.A Reiki Master and Bowen Healer.did the code on me day after 1st Tax and the peace from it was amazing.Healing code.co.uk run courses in Manchester and Warrington quite near me, might give it a go.Some of these courses can be quite wierd and cooky and sometimes give me tummy ache trying not to giggle, like your Medium visit a while ago.
So sorry to rabbit on,must try and get back in bed and sneak some sleep if that is ever possible,Slept 7 hours on Tax night without even a Tax wee,so body says live on that store for a while.
Feet and Hands are good due to diligent creaming and socks and bedgloves

Day eight and no problems other than fatigue and tears… We have to get them every now and again to mourn what is gone forever and to adjust to the new which is unknown. I suppose when the taps open it is better to be left alone until the well runs dry. No point in upsetting everybody around me… So ready to smile into Saturday. More energy needed please today. To be fair last Tax I was very very wobbly at this stage.
Must hang the curtains in the den today. They were bought in the January sales …lazy me.
I had my first tax on Wednesday (after 3 fec) and am not feeling too bad…yet!
I haven’t been sleeping well but I am sure I will catch up over the weekend. The worst thing for me at the moment is the taste thing. Everything I drink apart from tea or coffee (de-caf or it brings on hot flushes and indigestion!) tastes like salt water. On fec I drank water, lemon barley water, soda water, lemonade etc but can’t drink any of them now. Pineapple juice tastes ok but stings my tongue a bit. Please please please can anyone suggest something I can drink…I am drying out!
Kate xx
Ps all fruit, wine gums, jelly babies, ice lollies and jelly tastes like salt water too!
I can taste pink grapefruit fruit and barley by Robinson’s. I was on the orange and lemon barley respectively but went off them . Scotch and slimline dry ginger is ok as is GT but really they are to sip. Problem is you can’t have too much. Dam. Have you tried cider? Smoothies are fine.
Diet hot chocolate was ok during my first FEC but it is now too sweet.
Thank you Cackles, I will try the pink grapefruit. I can’t face any alcohol at the moment, it all smells like white spirit! I can drink hot chocolate, maybe I should try milkshakes.
Does this bad taste fade before the next poisoning? I am supposed to be going out for a meal tonight for my mums birthday I hope I can find something that tastes good on the menu.
No problem - My "everything tasting of corn flour paste " went at about day three to four. I found I liked cheese bacon and other salty foods plus some curry type things. I had a craving for a fillet steak last night and it was ok but not quite normal. Stewed apple is ok in crumbles and apple cakes. Also othet sharp fruits eg gooseberry pie has gone down well. Most of these things ie extra salt, curry etc I would not have had pre chemo. The most annoying thing of all is I hate some smells - especially those of washing powders. Once upon a time I would have sniffed and thought, lovely a clean duvet, now I search for a perfume to get rid of the aroma.
I have found Tax ok this time and really FEC was a diddle. It is mainly fear of the unknown…plus Tax can bite!!!
Im on diet sprite with lots of ice. Still doesnt taste great but better than water which tastes like soap!
Im really struggling to eat due to mouth ulcers - first time Ive had any so suppose I have got off lightly. The taste thing is soooo crap. Stuff only started to taste halfway normal around day 18 of my first one and given that this stuff is cumulative… Im not holding out much hope, but hey we are all different so hoping you can tell what you’re eating soon ;-0
Kate I found it difficult to find something nice to drink… Water tastes salty to me too. Been drinking quite if pineapple juice cos it’s supposed to be hood for sore mouths… My mouth has been incredibly painful over the last few days but woke up today (day 10) and feel almost normal. Iv been drink orange squash. Went off my beloved pepsi max cos it was nippy but really fancy trying it again. Like you I am totally off alcohol.
When my mouth was sore I made a huge batch of homemade soup and it was nice nit quite normal but better than most things and I’m currently loving bacon. It actually tastes better than any bacon Iv eaten before.
Laurie hope your mouth is better soon it was really getting me down when it was sore felt like I couldnt eat couldn’t drink couldn’t talk but now the relief of a normal sized tongue and no thrush is just great. I used difflam, biotene gel, nystatin and bonjela still not 100% normal but def so much better than midweek.
Day 4 of TAX 3/4 and delighted to report that I had the best nights sleep in ages last night. Now feeling quite chirpy! Only side effects are numb finger tips so can’t do up buttons and zips or get tablets out of foil packets. Watery eyes and my mouth is beginning to feel a bit woolly. I usually have problems with my mouth by about day 5, tongue seems to swell up a little and teeth feel too sharp! Difflam usually sorts out any problems.
Hope the weather stays fine enough for me to let the sky lanterns off tonight.
Diet sprite with loads of ice and Robinsons orange and barley are the only drinks I can tolerate, used to drink loads of water but oh no, no more. Yuk at the peeling feet, had a slight foot peel but nothing on that scale!! Have been craving steak too, but know I wouldn’t eat it if it was in front of me. Hungry but nothing seems appealing.
Cackles - I know about the tears, I never used to cry and I am hopeless these days. Had to leave the room when the news was on. Can’t cope with anything sad. You are so right that we have to mourn what is gone forever. Life will never be the same again. Seem to get more tearful each cycle.
Hang in there girls. xxxxx
Was feeling great today… Day 11 however the tax trots have struck today so now not feeling all that great… Hope it’s only for a day… Any experiences of the tax trots?
