Nerve traction injury

Hello

Has anyone else experienced this?

After months and months in pain, it has been suggested that I sustained a nerve traction injury whilst undergoing my first LD flop. This would mean that the surgeon had my arm extended for far too long in one position and caused the injury.

I’m hpoing to be referred to a pain clinic to confirm the injury and treat the pain. I have had a lot of physiotherapy but no one suggested this was the cause of my problems because they hadn’t had a BC patient with LD flop injuries before.

If you are suffering with pain, after LD, down from your axilla to your arm and/or down your back it may well be this. I checked my theatre notes because one of the anaesthetist’s jobs is to note down the positions in which you are held and the times etc. so I can prove I was in one position for far too long.

I’d be interested to hear how anyone else is managing such an injury and adding it to the list of risks I wasn’t told about.

Yes, I have post operative pain on my arm for sometime. I presume it was due to the extremely lengthy operation (mine was 16 hours, where the surgeon re-did the blood vein connection of the DIEP flap at least twice). The position that I was in for such a long time, resulted in ache and pain. But it disappeared after a couple of months. I found putting a bio oil for massaging the area helps.
Good luck with your recovery.
