Nervous about my employment...6 month review coming up!

Hi All,

Just a quick post to see if anyone knows where i stand. I was off work for a while due to being dx in june 08. Returned to work properly in April and had a lot of problems with supervisor. it got sorted…she got better and then she went horrible again. My 6 month reveiw was supposed to be on wed and has been put off till next week as my manager has to go over things with my supervisor. This never happens. I have a really bad feeling that she has given me a really bad review and I am just wondering where i stand as i have only been back work for 6 months after having BC? I personally think that I have done really well in my work after returning butmy supervisor picks at everything i do and looks for mistakes so im worried that she would have told my manager all of this. Is there anything protecting me legally as I have had BC?

Thanks!

Yes you should be protected under the disabilty discrimination act as a cancer patient this covers you there is some advice on this on this site in the info bit. Goodluck.

HI there

Sounds like a horrible situation for you - hopefully it won’t be as bad as you think.

But if your supervisor does strongly criticise you then I think I would be asking why a meeting wasn’t arranged before the 6 month review to go through any problems. You could say it has been a very difficult time for you returning to work, that you want to make a real go of it, are willing to work on things but that you need support (if you feel all of that is appropriate).
If you are really unhappy with what she says then perhaps come back to the site for more advice - there is always more you can do.

Most organisations do also have bullying and harrassment policies.

If you’re having problems with the supervisor I would ensure that you keep notes about what is going on.

Take care and good luck for the review.

Hi

I returned to work recently and armed myself with several documents for my ‘back to work meeting’. It’s a horrible that you have to deal with this after all you have been through.

I don’t know if they will be of use

cipd.co.uk/subjects/health/general/_cncrwrkg.htm

Breast Cancer Care also have several very useful documents if you search the Employ Charter you shoud find them under downloadable resources

Hope this helps

Jackie

Dear All,

I have attached the link to the Employ charter. I hope this helps

I’m still on my probationary period I’m a store manager and was diagnosed 11 weeks into my new job.I finished radiotherapy 23rd of October and this is the second week back in work.
During my time off I was not contacted once by the company.
On my return I have felt very isolated,my boss could barely ask how I was. This weeek I have asked to reduce my hours as I worked 51 last week!!He said yes at first but rang later in the day saying I should be in on a Thursady even though I thought we had agreed.
Are we covered by the dda act after our treatment has finished I’m confused.
