Nervous now have chemo start date

I’m feeling really nervous about starting chemotherapy now they’ve been through all of the possible side effects with me! I’m also now reading into everything now that I have my specific diagnosis. I’m told mines er+ but only very weakly (3), PR- and her2 - anyone with the same diagnosis?

Hiya. Of course you’re anxious, it is all really scary. But, the side effects can terrify you as the list feels so long. You won’t necessarily experience all of them, and if you do, the chemo team are fantastic at giving you things to make the side effects more manageable, so lean on them as much as you need to, don’t suffer in silence.

There will be tough days, but hang on to the fact that there are more days where you will feel fine than not. You also have this fabulous community to support you as well.

Sending much love xxx (I’m HER2 +ve). x

Same diagnosis. I was dreading chemotherapy but have now come out of the other side.

The nurses are fantastic and there is a 24 hour helpline. Also regular reviews from the oncologist. Keep talking to the staff, they are there for you. I got through, you will too!!

All the best

Hi

I’m HER2 positive and oestrogen and progesterone negative. So not exactly the same . I finished neon- adjuvant chemo 6 weeks ago and have surgery tomorrow - a lumpectomy and also in the axilla for a lymph node that was definitely cancerous.

The chemo I had was 4x Docetaxel and Phesgo . The phesgo is a targeted drug which targets the HER2. Docetaxel is chemo drug . Then 4x Epirubicin and Cyclophosphamide. The EC is a harsher regime , but you will be given anti sickness drugs drugs and steroids to help. Listen to your body, only do what you feel you can , don’t push yourself . if you feel that is nothing then don’t worry, don’t feel guilty. The first week is the worst, I felt better into week 2 and by week 3 was doing some “ normal” activities . I had chemo every 3 weeks for 5 months . Eat whatever you fancy and if that’s not what you normally eat , just have whatever you fancy. I found soft foods so much easier to cope with . Also eat small amounts more frequently. You will get through the chemo believe me. Be brave , be strong , you’ve got this .
