New. 28, found a lump.

Hi,

I’m really worried and anxious, I’m 28 years old and have a 5 year old son. I’ve been experiencing breast pain in one breast for at least half a year now, I saw my GP in November who gave me evening primrose oil. Around 2 weeks ago I found a pea sized lump in the same breast. Saw a GP on Thursday who could also feel it and she is referring me to the breast clinic, however she said she can’t do it urgently due to my age? I’m freaking out over the thought of waiting 1 or 2 months to get some answers. I can’t focus on anything else, waiting that amount of time will cause even more anxiety. Should I consider going private? Is a month or 2 months too long to wait?

Thank you for any advice and support.

Hi Stacey
I know it’s really hard not to panic but over 90% of lumps are benign
I am not a doctor but you are young, you had breast pain and now the pea sized lump sounds very much more likely to be cysts x
I have been to breast clinic today after a very anxious 3 week wait, with very painful breasts and a pea size and shape lump in one breast and a lump that doctor didn’t think was a cyst in the other. Turns out today that they are just cysts. Try to keep busy hopefully you won’t have to wait too long and keep chatting on here or telephone the helplne if you need to.
Take care x

Thank you for the replies. That is great news about the cysts, you must be so relieved

I called the specialist breast nurse at the breast clinic today to see how long I could be waiting for an appointment, she said there was no referral for me! I saw the GP last Thursday, I would have expected it to be there by now. She also told me that I can be reffered urgently, regardless of my age. I know this GP is recently qualified and new to the practice so all of this has just made me worry more and that is nearly a week wasted. The breast nurse said the waiting list is within 4 weeks for urgent referrals and 6-8 weeks for routine referrals.

I can feel this all becoming too much as Ialso have university exams at the moment, I suffer from an anxiety disorder and depression and I have a colposcopy appointment on Thursday following an abnromal smear. Too many things happening at once! I was hoping this referral would have been recieved by now and I’d be getting somewhere with an appointment :frowning: xx
