New appt, tests & a couple of questions

Hi everyone,

I now have a new appt with the snr consultant for this Friday and I was just wondering if anyone has experience with stereotactic mammograms? Apparently I will be having this done as well an FNA, US and ‘any other tests that maybe required to aid diagnosis’.

I’m pleased that my referral came through in a reasonable time but still feeling very anxious about it all. I’m hardly sleeping at all at the moment. I finally had the chance to talk to my mum about it all on Sunday and discovered some less than positive news about our family history. Apparently two of my cousins have had bc and one of them died of it. They are from a part of my family that I don’t really know much about and therefore didn’t know about the bc issues.

When I spoke to the doctor at my first assessment last week I told him that there was no history of bc in my family, so should I now mention this to the new doctor on Friday?

I’m just feeling confused and really down about it all at the moment.

Hi nymeria

I am sorry to read you’re having such a worrying time at the moment. You might find it useful to read the BCC booklet ‘Breast cancer in families’ It incudes varios information and explains what is meant by a significant family history. If you would like a copy just follow this link:-

breastcancercare.org.uk/upload/pdf/bc_in_families__final_12_june_08_layout_1_0.pdf.

I hope this is helpful.

Best wishes Sam, BCC Facilitator

Thanks Sam, that has clarified a lot of things for me and I will be sure to mention my cousins when I see the consultant on Friday.
