New here - Hi

Just to add, I felt a little ill, flu like, after my first Pamidronate but all following infusions were fine, completely symptom free…x

Hi all Only registered last week and have just found this thread. Found to have BC in Jan 07 aged 43 and bone mets soon after. I was put on Tamoxifin and Bondrant tablets for bone. In jan this year had ovaries remove (preventitive treatment BRCA2), taken off tamoxifin and given Femara (Letrozole). I worry now as the aches and pains that have started since, though a known side effect, its hard not to worry if other things are developing. Seeing onc shortly and will be going for bone scan as its been year since last one.

Could I ask what Pamidronate is?

Forgot to say, onc decided not to give me chemo after bone mets found (scanned three weeks after mastectomy, lymphs showed cancer 19/19) and whilst reading other peoples stories most seem to mention chemo treatment. Onc thought I wouldn’t get any benefit from it at that time. Secondaries showed up as hotspots on CT scan, but bone scan showed nothing. Did this happen to anyone else?

Hi Lynni,

I’m another one with bone mets - but originally dx in 1990, then with bone mets in 2002. Pamidronate is one of the bone drugs used to treat bone mets. The others are zometa (zoledronic acid) - these are the two most commonly used and are infusions (intravenous drips). Bondronat is the pill form of bisphosphonates. I think bone mets tends to show up well on a bone scan when it has reached a certain stage in development. Mine was very extensive when it was found so I went straight on to pamidronate. I am sure your oncologist is keep a close on anything else developing and will be saving chemo if that happens. Bisphosphonates are sufficient to deal with bone mets on its own.

Just want to say that I agree with Dawn. I was first diagnosed with bone mets so started Pamidronate and was told that I wouldn’t be given chemo for bones. Then 3 weeks later found it was in my liver so started chemo because of that.

Good luck

Thanks for the comments.

Unfortunately when I had my ovaries removed in Jan they found breast cancer in them and also on peretinium wall apparently a lining that surrounds the organs in that area of body. But they couldn’t tell if cancer had spread recently or alot earlier. CT/MRI scams follwed, but cancer didn’t show - too small. Went from tamoxifin to Femara in case tamoxifin not doing its job, but no chemo yet thank God.
