Hi everyone. I dont know if this is the right place to post, just looking for some kind of support. I am 47 & went for my 1st mammogram 2 weeks ago, got a call back letter 2 days ago asking me to return back. The words being ‘’ Your results show you need to come back for more tests’’ This time its at the hospital not the mobile unit. I feel sick, so worried, cant sleep. I have to go back on tuesday morning, I am absolutely petrified, trying so hard to hold it together for my children sake, my hubby has been great so that helps. Makes it worse because I lost my mum to breast cancer when she was only 49, my dad was diagoned witn prostate cancer last year, so cancer is a biggy in my family… Sorry if I have posted this on the wrong place. I suppose I just need someone to give me some advice. Thankyou Evie
Hi evie welcome.
Sorry to hear you are having this worry,
if you have a look at older threads you will see loads of ladies who got the call back letter and were fine, but that will not help your stress, the chances are it’s going to be ok but it’s only natural that you are going to worry. Especially as you have experience of cancer in your family.
loads of women get called back after the first mammogram because they are younger so the breast tissue is more dense, and they don’t have a previous mammogram to compare it with, then I was called back there were 12 of us, three got tests and nine went home. I hope you are one who gets to go.
my only advice is keep busy, it might help to distract you, read the leaflet on here about the clinics so you know what to expect but dont look any further, don’t google or read loads about treatments, you will only freak your self out.
There are so many things it could be that they want to check, not just cancer.
Having said all that I was the one of my group who got the bad news and treatments have improved so much that my treatment has been very doable.
If you find yourself getting too stressed out phone the helpline. They are great and quite used to hysterical women crying down the phone. Post on here when you get the wobbles.
We have all been where you are and the not knowing and waiting are pure torture.
keeping everything crossed for you,
take care

Hi Evie
Sorry to hear you’ve had a call back but I will echo pretty much what Keeks has said. Being your first mammogram then they don’t have anything to compare it with so often it is nothing but to say try not to worry would be silly of me as I know how worried you will feel.
Try to busy yourself and when the appointment comes you will usually but given an answer on that day - even if you need tests they can give you a good indication as to what they think.
Good luck

Hello Evie,
I hope I can offer you a bit of consolation. I found a lump in my left breast 8 weeks ago, and my doctor agreed, with me. Sent me to hospital within a week. The mamagram confirmed that I had two lumps and I also had three core biopsies done staight after the mamagram. I was told straight after that it was certain that I had cancer in my left breast…A big shock. And the week that followed waiting for confirmation, was honestly the most traumatic week of my life…the following week, everything was confirmed and I was told that I had to have a mastectomy, to which I requested that both my breasts be removed!
Now three weeks POST OP and I have been told that I was grade 1 cancer, which the surgeon has removed completely, and I am basically cancer free. I had three lumps removed and ALL my lympyh nodes removed from under my left armpit and the sentinel lympth node removed from my right…They only found a few cells in ONE of my nodes in the left and no other cancer cells in any of the others.
I am now taking Tamoxifen, which removes the eastrogen from my body, as my cancer responded to eastrogen… I may have to have some radiotherapy…Still awaiting an appointment to discuss the merit or not of having it…Can I just say, that I have noticed that the hospital staff were fantastic, and tend to give you the worse prognosis, but I think thats just to prepare you, but until the OP is done, if necessary, no one can be sure…So you could have knocked me down with a feather, when I was told that I am in fact CANCER FREE…Best of luck…IT is not all doom and gloom x
Hi Evie
Wishing you good luck for tomorrow, they will look after you well and hopefully you will be ok

Hi evie
sorry to hear you’ve got the call back, the good news is no lumps, there is a leaflet on here that explains all about calcification. Yet again, most are not cancer. I was shown mine on my mammogram and they are minute. I was amazed any one noticed them. I know the waiting is torture but believe me if they could have given you a definite answer they would have.
I hope the next week passes quickly for you, fingers crossed for you,
Keeks
