Went bk a wk later for it to be confirmed to then find out they now looking at my breast for now they think I have pre cancerous cells there to, already talking of me having a mastectomy as well as chemo. It’s all sinking in very slowly but now I know I have cancer my next worry is has it spread anywhere else ??? I have 2 young children age 9 & 7 so worry alot with what’s going to happen. I’m hoping that my next appointment next wk can tell me more on my treatment plan & when will it start & answer my questions… So scared have good days and bad & can’t face going back to work…:frowning:

Hi Shelly,
Sorry you have to find yourself in this situation, and its totally normal to be scared. I was diagnosed in Feb 2012 with a grade 2 invasive ductal carcinoma. I had chemo first, to shrink the tumour. Before a mastectomy then radiotherapy. I am now on Herceptin and hormone therapy.
It all seems very daunting but once you have your treatment plan, you feel a bit more in control. I am sure they will go through it all at your next appointment. But when you think of questions get a little book and write them down…and make sure you get them answered at you next appointment.
I was also worried re: spread. So my Onc ordered me a CT scan of my chest abdomen and thorax. I was also given a sentinel node biopsy to see if the cancer had spread to the lymph nodes in the arm pit. (for me they had). But they are all questions you can ask your Onc if needed, when you have you plan of action. You will know more when you get you pathology back and they talk about grade etc…of the cells.
I can understand not wanting to go back to work…it was a welcome distraction for me as it gave me something else to think about. My employer have been fab. Is there anyone at work you could confide in? An occupation health nurse?or HR? It doesnt need to be common knowledge but at least then they are aware of what is going on.
I really hope you get on ok at your next appointment, and try not to worry too much (easier said than done i know). Any questions, just ask. There is a wealth of knowledge on these boards.
Take Care,
Rae
