NEW PLASTIC SURGEON

Haven’t been on this site for some months. I’ve finished my treatment and I’m now being phased back in at work and I’m feeling well.

HOWEVER - I had mastectomy with immediate reconstruction last year and my plastic surgeon was brilliant and made a wonderful job of my new boob. I am due to have more surgery in the next month or so to have my nipple constructed, my other boob lifted and a couple of minor things on my tummy. I have just found out that my plastic surgeon has gone to New Zealand for 6 months on a sabbatical!!! How dare she? !!
A locum is taking her place but I am very dubious about letting enyone else take over. I can wait until next year but it would be good now to have it all done and finished with.

My surgeon is Miss Canal at Addenbrookes Hospital, Cambridge. The locum is a Mr Morrison. Has anyone heard of him please? Is anyone else in the same position? I can’t decide what to do. It would be great if someone knew of him and could recommend him - or not!!

Best wishes to everyone

Hi Tracey & Michelle - thanks for your replies.

I had a chat with my BC Nurse who told me Miss Canal can be away for up to a year and may not actually come back! She said Addenbrookes would not take on ‘just anyone’, especially as this Mr Morrison has to take on Miss Canals patients (she is a perfectionist!). She told me he has been working in the States - Miss Canal worked in the States and learned latest techniques etc. Apparently he has very good qualifications and lots of experience.

In the meantime I had a call from Addenbrookes about fixing a date for my surgery! So I had to consider my options. After careful consideration I decided to go for it. So I go into Addenbrookes on 01 Oct for surgery on 2nd. My BC nurse arranged for me to see Mr Morrison in Clinic today (at my local hospital). He is very pleasant and seems very caring. I asked lots of questions - he said he ‘aims for perfection’, although of course he cannot guarantee it!! But I ‘warmed’ to him.

So I’ll let you know in a couple of weeks how it all goes!

Best wishes

Hi Michelle
I’m feeling fine thank you. I was in the new Treatment Centre at Addenbrookes and it was wonderful - a bit like a hotel! And the nurses were brilliant again. I even had the same anaesthetist as last year - AND she remembered me! (She did have a few problems with me last year!)
Off the painkillers - just a bit tender! Mr Morrison told me everything went very well. But I can’t see anything yet - I’m covered in dressings and thick plasticky strapping - a bit like a weird Madonna-style bra-top!! I’ve been told not to lift or bend and to wear a sports bra day and night for 6 weeks (been there before but it was 3 months!!).
I’m seeing the Dressings Nurse at my local hospital tomorrow so all should be revealed! I’m looking forward to it and dreading it all at the same time! Watch this space!!

Best wishes

Hi Michelle and Tracey
Sorry I’ve taken a while to report on my surgery but I waited until I had seen Mr Morrison in Clinic again.

I have healed well and I am very pleased with the results, especially my new nipple! Once the scars have faded, I shall feel like a new woman! Flatter tummy, slightly larger breasts and definitely much firmer!
Mr Morrison was pleased with his ‘handiwork’. He is a lovely person as well as being a good surgeon. I shall see him again in January and then I can have my tattoo done - and all my treatment will be finished - after nearly 2 years!

So Michelle and anyone else booked for Miss Canal who will be seeing Mr Morrison, don’t worry - you will be in very good hands.

Best wishes

The flat tummy is such a bonus after all the sh*t weve been through, i call it my reward.

Thanks for letting us know

Hi again Michelle & Tracey
Yes - I do go to the West Suffolk Hospital - I actually work there as well!! Have you got a date for surgery Michelle and are you going into Addenbrookes or the West Suffolk? I had all my surgery at Addenbrookes. Its not exactly something to look forward to but I think it is all well worth it in the long run. We are women and want to still feel and look like women. I am enjoying life much more now than I have in the last few years - I really appreciate it now.

Tracey - new nipple - I’ve just checked and yes - it is just like the other one!! Obviously it will look much more convincing when I have the aeriola tattooed but the actual nipple is great! Are you due to have yours soon?

We deserve all the bonuses we can get! Keep in touch.
