Hi ladies, I start my 1st fec next Mon, I’m getting rather scared now even though I regularly read threads on here. I had a corneal graph in one eye many years ago and I’m really concerned on how the treatment can affect your eyes. Has anyone else ever had surgery on there eyes and gone on to have chemo. I’ve suffered rejection to my eye on more than one or two occasions and had steroids to save it that thankfully worked.
Anyone share any advice on this please
Julie
Sorry, cannot help, but thank you for highlighting this. I am, as yet, not sure whether I need chemo. I have had operations on both eyes. I’ll sure now check with my nurse. Hope someone answers you question very soon.
Hi Nicho
I have Keratoconus and a keraring (havent needed a graft as yet) so can see why you are worried as I was too, chemo can affect your eyes but it doesnt mean it will happen , I have finished chemo last week and apart from problems with dry eyes and tear filming which lots of people have and I probably had a bit worse due to the KC I havent had any progression in my KC . I went to town with the hyloforte and used lots and ensured I kept my eyes well lubricated and I have been fine you may have more bad eye days than usual I did. If you do get worried though and any symptoms appear that dont seem to want to go away just ask for an ophthalmology consult or even as a local optometrist to have a quick look if you are still under your Ophthalmologist you could ask to chat to them or the specialist nurse and discuss your concerns
I think the main thing chemo can do is bring on cataracts
