new to all this and need some advise

hi there. i was diagnosed with bc on the 2nd july and had a lumpectomy and sentinal node biopsy on the 12th. this has all happened so fast and has left me reeling. the pain in my breast is worse than it was last week! it seem’s to be worse behind my nipple even though the incision was made to the side of my breast. i’ve also got alot of pain in my armpit and upper arm. just wanted to know if this is normal. i don’t go back to the hospital til the 2nd august for result’s/further treatment etc.

Hi lollypops - I’m sorry you have had to join us. Do you have a number for your breast care nurse? If so I would give them a call about your pain and see if you can be checked out. I don’t necessarily think it is abnormal, but I think most of us get a post operative check to discuss these things.

Hi lollipops

that’s a quick team you have there. great you have had your op so quick but has meant you have had less time to psych yourself up for it No wonder you are reeling with the emotional and physical stuff you are dealing with. Yes give your breast care nurse a call to see what she says. It sounds in the normal range yo me. Remember they cut bits out then push the rest round to fill the gap do there must be pain from the pushed sections too. Worth checking tho. You get into a checking things out mindset. With this disease, just go withthe flow and ask for help whenever you need it. Good luck and keep posting. You are closer to getting your treatment plan now which will help you. Also take your painkillers and don’t forget your exercises as they do help. Xxx vickie

Hi Lollipops,
Sorry you have joined us but welcome to the friendliest bunch of people on the planet:-)
Just want to say …don’t persevere with discomfort…give your bc nurse a call and explain because I think you’ll find that most are very helpful and try to iron out any problems as they arise…if we don’t tell them they don’t know and often there is a simple solution such as stronger pain killers etc.
I am 3 months post op and still get sharp nerve like pains from where I was rearranged during lumpectomy and node clearance…apparently pains can still be there for up tp two years as they disturb our being a lot during the op.
Hope things improve soon

Hi Lollipops

Welcome this exclusive club!

If it helps my pain was worse during weeks 2&3 post op then settled down again.I was told that this was due to all the nerve ends repairing. I am now 4 weeks post op and things a lot better. The sharp pin prick pains less frequent. Be prepared for the lymph collecting as it looks for new ways of clearing. My boob was as big as a water melon! My friend had a large orange sized swelling under her arm. These are common, just ring your BN and they will advise you .

Good luck

Andi

Hi Lolita,
Glad you feel a bit better now you have some info to compare with!!
Don’t hesitate to ask anything you want to…someone here will have been there already and give you their knowledge and experience…remember though that each one of us is different and what others experience may be different for you.

It is great to have somewhere to call to ask questions though andthere are no silly questions in this game nor would you ever be considered a pain …we all ask loads of questions as there are so many out there who have the know how because they have been there before us…don’t look to far forward or you will scare the living daylights out of yourself worrying about aomething that may never happen to you…lots of us are guilty of doing that on a regular basis!!
Take Care Suze xx

Hi Lolita
I had slnb four weeks ago and only just really feel comfy wearing a bra and it’s still tender in the armpit but any concerns talk to your bcn - good luck x

finally contacted my BCN yesterday as my breast had gone really hard and still very painful. went to see her this morning and she say’s i have a blood clot where they operated. she said that hopefully it’ll dissapear by itself. i’ve also got cording(?) in my upper arm and have’nt a clue what this is! has anyone else had either of these or know anything about it?
thank’s
