New to site- anyone at the same stage/from Central Scotland?

Hi Richard,

I have been wondering how things are going for your partner. It is a difficult time waiting to get a firm diagnosis for the type of lump etc. That will be good news (well as good as it gets anyway) re: stage and type (her2 negative) and hopefully there will be no need for chemo or herceptin. Tell her best of luck for the op and will be thinking of her. Again, if she wants to get in touch me with directly, tell her to do that. It would be nice to hear from someone a similar age to myself.

I started my chemo a few weeks ago and although I feel ok now, I had a bad time with sickness the few days after. I am hoping the next time will not be so bad. But 1 down and 5 to go!

Sorry I don’t know anything about the Maggie centres so perhaps someone else can help with that.

Best wishes for your wedding day and try to enjoy it. All of this will, I’m sure, make it extra special.

All the best and look after yourself too! x

Hi

I had right mx 4 years ago and I am due to go into St Johns for Tram Flap reconstruction nxt month. I used the Maggies Centre in Fife a lot during my treatment and found it very helpful. I found a lot of the people who used the Maggies very supportive and the volunteers and workers were great, always their to listen or advise. I attended nutrition, creative writing, relieving stress, and look good feel better (i thoroughly recommend this course the goody bag is amazing worth a lot of money with beautiful products)courses, I also borrowed a lot of good books about BC from their library.

Hope this helps

maggies at the WGH is just opposite the breast unit car park… the staff and volunteers are lovely… you can go and get information or have a chat and acuppa or they run lots of different sessions that you or your partner may find helpful such as relaxation, art therapy for cancer patients (which i went to and loved), younger womens group i go to this once a month with a lovely group of girls.

they also have some drop in session eg for financial advise.

they run the look good feel better day which i would def recommend…

Dear all,
Thanks so much for your time and help,

We are focused on the wedding at the moment, but I am finding it hard not to wrap her in cotton wool, and not to overeact to any sniffle or seemingly unusual ailment. I am trying not to be over protective and smother her, but she is my whole life.

Both of our works are being brilliant and very supportive and I aim to go to all the appointments she has as we are in this together, and I do not ever want her to be alone again when getting a diagnosis/results back. Maggies sounds great and exactly what Alison needs. Ironically she completed a mountain marathon earlier this summer in support of Maggies raising a few hundred pounds for the cause. Never did we think we would be reaping the benefits from it ourselves.

I would very much like for her to meet people in the same boat and of the same age, so maybe we will bump into each other at Maggies. If all goes well Alison will be receiving radiotherapy in January, or sooner at the WGH. I’ll be the one looking proud as punch to be the new husband of a fabulous girl.

You are all fantastic.

Richard

Hello again and hopefully a happy new year to everyone!

Things for us did not according to plan. The op went well insofar as the lump was removed with good clear margins, but 2/3 lymph nodes showed cancerous deposits so Alison is going back in this Friday to have all the lymph nodes out. She unfortunately also took a beating from the drugs to help the pain and swelling from the last op with a nasty itchy burning rash that enveloped her whole body, including the palms of her hands and soles of her feet. So quite understandibly she is not looking forward to round two of surgery!! She had barely recovered from that when the surgeon broke the bad news about the histology results. Bang goes the plan of just having radiotherapy. It’s now Chemo and rads with the results from this friday’s op determining whether it is 1 or 2 types of chemo and 6 or 8 cycles. So another anxious wait for that!!

So having expected good things we found ourselves at EFREC trying to get the fertility issue sorted out, as the Chemo is going to be quite tough on her. So Xmas was a bit pump really with us having to give her daily injections for the pre-chemo fertility treatment and the worry about what the new year will bring us. To top it all off before she completely recovers from the op she’ll have to go in for the egg harvesting so that chemo can start as early as is practicable. It is so frustrating not being able to take any of the physical burden from her. Despite giving her all my love and support, it just doesn’t seem enough to me.

Hopefully she’ll meet others in the flesh of the same age who are going through the same procedures, as she needs to have that sort of support as well, but is a little shy in coming forwards on this type of forum.

Hi Rich,

Welcome to the BCC discussion forums, and hope that you get some replies from other forum users soon, as they have a wealth of experience and knowledge between them. Do encourage your partner to look at the forums as I am sure she will get some good support, even if it’s only by reading and not posting herself.

If either of you need to talk to someone in confidence then the BCC helpline is here to support you.

If there’s anything you need to know just ask I’m sure someone will be able to point you in the right direction.

Take care both,
Jo, Facilitator
