New to the club and just need advice

Had WLE and sample lymph nodes removed 2 wks ago. Results showed no further surgery required and lymph nodes clear,Grade 2 tumour but my receptors tested positive. I expect Rads but was told that due to the findings I would require Femera and to do this I will require chemo 1st, didn’t expect that. Normal I would ask loads of question but for some stupid reason I went in a tail spin. Now waiting to see the chemo specialist, I hope by then I will ask what all I need to know, not even sure at the moment what that is. Has anyone else required this who could explain the basics for me.

Hi
Looking at the info you have given it is not 100%clear why you need chemo and you should def check with your team. It could be your age- if you are young and grade 2 they maybe would consider it( sorry not being hormone receptive myself cant remember if femera is for pre or post menopausal women).
The only thing I wondered was were you HER2 +++ and need herceptin, because to have herceptin you need to have had chemo. Check with your bcn to see if you were Her2+++ as this might explain it. If you are anxious at all or confused I recommend phoning her anyway to clear things in your mind. That is what they are there for. take care and good luck. dx

I’ll phone later today just don’t like wasting there time. I wasn’t clear either if they got it all why I needed chemo just to have the Femera. All I they said was the receptors tested postive.

Spoke with my Cancer Nurse I need to have Chemo so that I can have the drug Herceptin, apartly I cant have the drug with the Chemo as they go had in Hand. I now understand alot more so its just a waiting game again and this time I will have all my questions ready for the chemo chap.

Hi
Glad you got your questions answered. It is very hard waiting. Try to fill your days with things you enjoy while you are well. The time will pass soon enough til chemo. I am having my third chemo on tuesday and the time passes more quicky when you get started. If you have any questions please post them- there is a wealth of experience here. There is also a very useful old thread called top tips for chemotherapy which you can do a search for. Good luck dx

Don’t be too hard on yourself about not asking the right questions. There is so much information to take on board and it’s such an emotional time. I always sit down and prepare my questions the night before I see the specialist and take them with me. It can also be helpful to talk things through with someone on the helpline. I’ve done this if I’m uncertain about something and then I’ve been able to ask all the pertinent questions.

This may sound a trivial thing but while you’re waiting for chemo to start it’s a good idea to have a dental check up. I had dental problems part way through and in the end we didn’t proceed with any treatment because of the infection risk. Luckily it wasn’t too bad and I was able to wait.

Hope it all goes well for you.

Hi there Icequeen

Just wanted to remind you of the helpline, as suggested by elinda. Do give them a call if you feel a chat would help.

The number is 0808 800 6000, they’re open until 5pm today and 9am until 2pm tomorrow.

Best wishes.

Thank you all for the advice, I was so postive at 1st but the word chemo just throw me. Now I know the treatment I have look at everything I can find on here. I’m off back to work this week till I get started on my next new journey, as I work in a large (open planned office ) my boss thinks I wont be able to come back in during chemo. I will ring the help line pro when I get the date to see the chemo guy. Just dont know what to expect I just know I hate and fight throwing up normally and thats mild to the other things that can happen, and everyone on here seems so brave and postive about everything and has gone through so much more than me, that I feel a fraud for worring. I only need this to help try and stop a re occurance.
