Ive just been to my GP today with a lump on my breast. Its been there for a month now, not noticable but can feel it, no pain either. Ive had dischrage from the nipple (Ewwgh)! I waited for my period to come and go to see if it reduced in size or disappeared. Its still the same
The GP said she could also feel a lump under my armpit which i cant and she could feel the lump on my breast too. She said that she was referring me urgently to a breast clinic. She called me back this afternoon and the appointment is on friday.
Im so worried but feel better for writing on the forum.
Hello, I am kind of in the same boat. I went to the GP yesterday. I found the lump a week or so ago, but waited until my period came too, thinking it would go. It’s the same
I have the breast appt next Monday, good that yours is even sooner.
Where do you live? HOw old are you?
I am 38 and a single Mum of a toddler, so am thiking all sorts of terrible scary thoughts, although I know I shouldn’t.
Hugs
Hope all goes well for you on Friday. Just remember there are always lots of lovely people on this site who will be willing to help with info and advice whatever your diagnosis. Lots of breast lumps turn out to be cysts and benign lumps. Let us know how you get on.
I am so sorry you find yourself going through this stress. The not knowing and the waiting for results are absolutely awful. It is really good that you have such a speedy appointment. If it is nothing, you will get the good news quickly and, if not, you can begin treatment to get rid of it.
You will find so much help and support on here. If you have any questions, just ask. The lovely people on here have really got me through this.
Don’t read too far ahead, as it may never apply to you, and may scare you. If you need someone to talk to, you can ring the helpline for an understanding and informative ear.
Best of luck and let us know how you get on on Friday.
As well as the support you are both receiving from the other forum users you may find the BCC booklet ‘referral to a breast clinic’ helpful to read as it explains the different tests you may have at the clinic.
If you like a copy or to read it on line just follow the link below:-
As Ann has mentioned BCC also have a helpline where you are able to share your worries and concerns with a trained member of staff. The number is 0808 800 6000 and the lines are open 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday and Saturday 9am to 2pm.
Hi girls and I am sorry that you are so worried at the moment. I just wanted to endorse what Sam said and to read up a bit and know what questions to ask to allay your fears. The fear is just that fear so if you get some answers at least you will know.
Make a list of questions and that will ease the thoughts going around your head of why didnt you ask this or that as we can be a bit stunned with the initial process.
Good luck for Friday and Monday and do let us know how you get on.
Thanks so much for all the kind responses. Im 23 years old. I have a 5 year old child too, so very anxious to get this over and done with. I didnt sleep very well at all last night feel a bit teary and my period isnt even due ha ha
I really need to say thanks so much for all the information you have sent me on this I appreciate it so much.
Does anybody know when you go for the appointment what they do, I understand they do an ultrasound but what else as Im 23 years old. Will the consultant review that before poking needles in me as Im scared of my life of them
Thanks everyone too for the kind responses. It actually really helps to not be alone with this. Sandra - I didn’t sleep well last night either, so feel even worse today! At least your appt is Friday so not much longer to go. HOpefully we’ll both be fine. I don’t have anyone to take with me unfortunately to the appt, but I have people I can talk to on the phone once I get home, so should be OK.
Best of luck Sandra
Every hospital is different but you will probably be examined first, be given a mammogram and probably then an ultrasound scan. If they think it necessary, they may do some sort of needle or core biopsy, so it may be advisable to take someone with you. Between each of these procedures, you will have to wait and then speak with a consultant. Expect to be there a few hours. If a biopsy is taken, you will have to go back another day for the results. I had to wait 2 weeks for mine.
It could be that they are certain on the day that it is nothing to worry about and I do hope so for all you ladies.
Good luck and if you have more questions, ask away.
Planet jupiter - please don’t be worried about not having someone to go with you.
You regularly read things that urge you to make sure someone goes with you. Unfortunately, that can make it a bit worrying if you don’t have anyone. But please don’t let that upset you. It isn’t actually necessary.
I go to all my appointments on my own and as I got a cancellation appointment at a couple of hours notice for my original one at the breast clinic it would have been impossible to arrange anyway! I did take a notebook with me then and now I always do.
Hopefully you will find it is nothing to worry about but there is a lot of information on this site and always someone who will reply to questions.
Sandra and Planet Jupiter, wishing you well with your appointments. I agree with the other lovely ladies - don’t read too many posts that may not apply to you and may cause unnecessary angst. I have found that it is best to take each step at a time and anyway everybody has different experiences and often good experiences are not posted! I am hoping that you both are found to have lumps that are nothing to worry about.
Just to say that I had my results two days after the first appointment (which I went to alone), some hospitals are able to give results the same day.
Will be thinking of you both on Friday and Monday.
Hiya, good luck with your appointments, you will probably meet a doctor a the clinic first to talk through why you have been referred, then they may have a feel. Due to your younger ages you may not have a Mammogram as your breast tissue is too dense and will not show up properly (I am 29 and was told that I could not have one) so you should have an ultrasound.
Try not to worry to much if at all possible, fingers crossed everything will be good news for you.
still feeling worried, trying not to read to much into this but its impossible not to Im a natural worrier anyway so thats a bummer!
I will def post back on friday whatever the outcome. I think its important for people to post both bad and good news on here. The good news will give people hope that its probably noting to worry about. I hope mine is good news
Again, thanks so much everyone.
PS Good luck jupiter, please post to let me know how you get on monday, Ill be thinking of you Xxx
Good luck tomorrow Sandra (and Monday jupiter), I’ll have my fingers crossed for you. I think we’re all natural worriers when it comes to something like this! On a positive note, not many 23 year olds are diagnosed with bc, so the odds really are in your favour that it’s benign. I remember how awful the waiting is though, and whatever the result you really will feel better once you know what you’re dealing with.
I’m 36 but they did do a mammogram (which didn’t show much), then an ultrasound followed by a biopsy. Try not to be too afraid, I also hate needles but they give you a local anaesthetic and I really didn’t feel anything at all and it only took a few minutes.
Me too I’ve just been to see my doc having convinced myself he would dismiss it, but then found myself frozen to the spot whilst the dr’s chaperone tried to stop my baby from crying, she’s 9mths and son is 3.
Referral takes two weeks here.
on a lighter note just found a copy of a publication called mummy’s bump on here written by someone who had bc 19yrs ago - so there is light…
I think a two-week referral is the NICE guideline. Hopefully, you will have nothing to worry about. The first two times, I had fluid-filled cysts, which the doctor drained before my eyes, using ultrasound as a guide. Please let us know how you get on.
Sorry I didnt get to post yesterday but my home internet is down for some reason.
I went for my appointnment, and the consultant was really pleasant. I was told I had a benign breast disease but wasnt told the name of the disease. He only did an ultrasound but wants me back in 6 weeks for a core biopsy. Has anyone else experienced this? Im not as worried as I was before hand but now I find I have even more un-answsered questions.
Does anyone know of any reasons for him doing this? Aggghhhhhhaaaaaa Im pulling my hair out now!
I can’t answer your question but it does sound like really good news. Maybe he just needs to find out exactly what it is, although he obviously feels it is nothing to worry about, or he would be doing the biopsy immediately.
Hi, sorry to gatecrash this topic but am new on here and can’t quite figure out how to create a new post.
Anyway, a couple of weeks ago I was examining my breasts and discovered what I thought was a hard area just underneath the nipple. I thought (stupidly or not) that I would wait a couple of weeks to see if it had gone away but it hasn’t.
Basically, what it feels like to me is a hard ridge that doesn’t really move. I’ve compared it with the other breast and it doesn’t feel the same. My husband has also checked and says he can feel a difference and what feels like a lump.
So my question is, do I wait til the end of the week to get the nurse to check (as I already have an appointment with her) or get try to get an earlier appointment with the GP?
