Newbie from Liverpool

Hi everyone. Not sure if this is in the right place as its my 1st post. I have just been referred to the Linda Mc Cartney Centre in Liverpool after finding ? a lump (comes and goes) and pain in my right breast. I’m not doing so well at the moment with anxiety and stuff. Very very anxious and currently having to take diazepam to calm me down a bit. Wouldn’t even let my GP examine me ( sounds very strange but hate my (.) (.) and won’t let my hubby near them most of the time. I’ll be on my own for this appointment and was wondering if anyone could offer me any advice as to what to expect from 1st clinic appointment either a general outlook or those who have been ro The Linda Mc Cartney Centre.

Thanks for listening.

Dear Nutnbolt,

I am sure you will soon get a lot of support from other forum users.

Meanwhile I have attached a link to one of our publications which has some information about what to expect at the Breast Clinic

Our Helpline is also there for information and support. They will be open again at 9.00am on Monday. The number is 0808 800 6000

Thanks for your reply Janet, that information is really helpful. They should send out a leaflet like that when you get your appointment through.

Hi nutnbolt and sorry you find yourself on this forum, but you are in good company and will get loads of support.

My treatment has been at the Linda McCartney centre and I cannot praise the staff enough for the wonderful treatment and care I have received.

I was first referred in April after a routine mammogram. To say I was shocked and anxious would be an understatement!

I had an ultrasound scan and biopsy.

I went back the next week for my results. The results are given by a surgeon. It was here I was told that the lump was a cancer. The surgeon was very good explaining to me what would happen next. It was very well organised, I was told my surgery date and introduced to my breast care nurse, who then took over. She visited me at home and I asked lots of questions which were clearly answered.

You will be in good hands. I have also taken advantage of the support on offer at the MacMillan centre located there.

Take care and if you find you need any further treatment I will be happy to let you know my experience, but, hey, one step at a time!

Best wishes,
Sheila

Understanding your anxiety, mine was so bad in the beginning with all the worry I couldnt leave the house and im on tranqilizers too

Hi, i have also had problems with anxiety. The anxiety was a total shock to me as i have always been able to deal with anything. But then i used to be able to run and sort my head out. I have been having hypnotherapy to help with anxiety and although i still get anxious, (especially at chemo time) i seem to be able to control it a little better. (except at chemo time). Still working on it though.

Hi Nutnbolt,

I was daignosed at the linda McCartny centre 21/2 years ago, and they have been great. I was told I had cancer on the same day I had my first clinic appointment, after having an examination, mammogram and core biopsy. As I was on my own, the bc nurse stayed with me until my husband could get there. I am not sure if they are still doing this, but I thought i should let you know in case you can bring somebody with you.
I hope your results are good, and you won’t be needing this forum.
best wishes,
Nicky

Thank you so much for all your replies. This is a wonderful site and you are lovely people.x

Hi Nutnbolt,

Just wondering how you are feeling now, a few days later.

Hope you are OK. When is your appointment?

Sheila

Hiya, not exactly sure how I’m feeling to be honest. I DO know that I’m not on my own WHATEVER the outcome and i have lots of support from lovely people like all you. I wish i could stop reading info about stuff and just block it out until my appointment. It’s on Wednesday 28th at 5.30pm. Thought this was a strange time and would this mean i wouldn’t get my results on the same day??? Thought clinics shut around 5pm??? Also i have to go on my own including travelling (I don’t drive) I’m dreading that bit :frowning:

Hi, im not sure if this means you will be able to get results the same day. I am being treated at clatterbridge and i know i got the fine needle aspiration results within half an hour. I do hope that you are not waiting too long, hope it goes well.
take care

Hi Nutnbolt,

Don’t be too surprised at the time of your apppointment, I once left the centre at about 6pm after an appointment!

If you are worried on the day of your appointment why not get there a little early and go into the Macmillan room for a chat. I went in when I was really upset and panicking and it was the best thing I did. The ladies are so helpful. I came out feeling very positive.

Best wishes,
Sheila

Thanks Sheila, and everyone else too.xx

No probs, we’ve all been there and are here for you now.

Take care.

Well I had my appointment today and had an ultrasound and I have nothing to worry about. Turns out it is just glandular tissue and they put it down to hormones as the pain and lump goes away when I have my period. I can’t thank you all enough on this fabulous site. You are all wonderful people. Thank you so much for being there for me and I wish you all, all the love and luck in the world.xxx

hi, thats great news, i am so pleased for you! yay
take care

to cut a long story short i was referred to breast clinic with breast pain in right breast , had mamagram which showed no problems with right breast but calcifications in left breast , i had core biopsy last tues but wasnt really told anything like when i should expect results , just said my consultants would get hold of me , i have read loads on calcifications trying to reassure myself , but since its been a week and stilll no appointment through im trying to convince myself it must all be ok but to be honest i cant stop thinking about it , even dreaming about it , really scared so if anyone could telll me how long ican expect to wait for results i would be so grateful

hey topcat - so sorry you are feeling so anxious…why not ring the breast clinic and ask to speak to a breast care nurse -ask them how long you might need to wait for results and that you are feeling very anxious. It really varies from hospital to hospital - some have results within days, others have to wait for a few weeks. Really hope everything turns out well for you - you will find lots of support and advice and comfort on this forum.
