Newbie here

Hi All,

Just been diagnosed with BC on 4th April. I’m so glad I found the lump “on time”, it’s a grade 2 and around 30mm. Had yesterday my appointment at the hospital with the surgeon and nurse to discuss my treatment. Op is booked for 4th May (lumpectomy) and normally radiotherapy and a 5 years course of Tamoxifen, unless anything is find in my lymph nodes.

I’m a little bit concern and stressed with Tamoxifen as I read a lot of negative comments about it, has anyone had good experience with it? Is there any other options?

Thanks in advance for your help

Hi. Sorry to hear of your diagnosis. I have been on Tamoxifen for 9 months now and I’ve been absolutely fine. I get the odd “tropical moment” but other than that I don’t notice any other side effects. There are many of us who have been fine on it, and at the end of the day it is THE gold standard drug. Good Luck!xx

hi swissannie, sorry you found us but welcome! same as horsie, been on tamoxifen a year and apart from erratic periods and the odd “flush”, nothing else to report.ladies who dont suffer horrid side effects dont tend to post if you see what i mean!? good luck with your surgery and keep posting alex xxx

Horsie5050 and mummysboob, thanks so much for your messages, I feel reassured as I was really worried about taking Tamoxifen. Mummyboob, you’re right, people are better at posting if it goes badly with a medicine. Did you both had operation, radio and tamosifen?

Well…I’m glad to have find this forum, I think it’s going to help me during this new challenge.

Hello Anne

Another one here with no side effects on Tamoxifen - I haven’t even had a hot flush! Hopefully you’ll have minimal SEs too. Remember, if you looked at the small print on a box of paracetamol you’d never take another one again.

Good luck with your treatment.
