Newly diagnosed at 23

Hi all

I was diagnosed in May with grade 3 tumour and spread to at least one node. Couldn’t believe it as only 23 and not got BRCA gene. Would love to hear some stories of people who have had successful treatment with lymph involvement.

I am having FEC-T 3 rounds of each. I have just finished cycle 3 of FEC so got T coming up. I have been suprised how well I have coped with the chemo and only seem to have a rough few days after.

Just had first ultrasound and have 1cm shrinkage so far…

Hi Rach04,

There are many who have chemo before surgery and it looks like you are responding well - such good news at such a difficult time.

It must be quite challenging to have such a diagnosis so early in your life.

I do not know what your actual cancer is and what your receptors are. Did they do a biopsy and tell you?

My guess is that the final piece of your diagnosis will fall into place, once you have had your operation, as the removed tissue will be examined in great detail in pathology. This will give your treatment team a very clear picture of what is likely to happen moving forward and how to make sure, as much as it is possible, that you will be ok.

I was diagnosed with a lobular invasive, which is ER positive. As initially the tumour looked quite small and the biopsy was a grade two - the treatment team decided on a mastectomy with immediate reconstruction. My pathology results, however showed that the tumour was much larger and grade 3 in areas. Thankfully, the 3 nodes, which were removed at the same time, all came back clear. So currently I am going through chemo (FEC number 4 just done) and then radiation therapy. My prognosis for the future, going through all of this treatment is very good - I shall collect my pension one of these days, lol!

Having node involvement is not necessarly going to make things much worse. Your currrent chemo regime will not only deal with your tumour, but also with rouge cells, should they have survived the travel through all of your other lymph nodes.

Like you, I have very few side effects with my chemo.

You might like to join us on the June starters chemo thread to share your experience and see how others are getting on - it is a great and very lively thread.

I am not sure, but have you found this area, which is specifically for younger women?

You might also find it interesting to have a thorough read of this specific blog hbocuninformed.blogspot.co.uk/2014/10/everything-ive-learned-so-far-about-tax.html

as you may be able to identify with many of the subjects covered in it - and it is also by a young women, too.

We are all here to help and support, as and when you need it.

Hi Rach,

Sorry to hear of your diagnosis at such a young age. Similarly, I am 25 and have recently been diagnosed with BC. I am unaware what stage I am at at the moment but apparently it has been caught early. I will be having a lumpectomy with a chance of chemo and radio afterwards. How are you feeling about it all? Personally, I am still shocked but feeling positive. I assume you have been tested for BRCA? I’m going through that at the moment.

If you do a forum search on here for ‘lymph node involvement’ you will find lots of threads from others in a similar position to you. Here is one example…but there are others from years and years ago too…
