News from Bikinggirl

I recently had some scans done asmy symptoms seem to be getting worse by the day.
I got the results yesterday and was plesently surprised!

My lung mets are still stable and the liver is I am pleased to say still clear.
The area in my shoulder and neck which have given me much pain and concern have showed very very little change however to look at me it is a very different story…

Apparently this area being very tight with nerves, lymph nodes, damage from rads and origional surgery. This means that the scans are very hard to read as the area is not clear as say the lungs so its not a case of getting a ruler to measure.

The Dr who looked at my scans and has done for the last 5 years can’t see any change nor much for concern as far as the nodes going up my neck… ( the huge bu@@ers that I feel every day).
So the conclusion being that there has been very little change to make a huge impact visually and as regards to pain and swelling. As for the those bu@@ers going up my neck they are lymph nodes and while Karen is not saying that it isn’t cancer what she did say was that it is the lymph nodes and there will be other reasons due to whats going on that can cause them to enlarge.
One of close friends has on a few occassions had enlarged nodes which have been very suspect only to find out it was nothing, we have since nick named them her stress monitors!

However, I do have another little tumor in the brain… but I think I knew that one was coming!!!

So the plan is…

I am being refered back to the ‘Gamma Knife Team’ for the brain tumor.
My Portacath which died on me a few months ago is going to get replaced YIPPEE.

I will see a Dr regarding rads to the neck and chest area but that I suspect this is more of a formality to say no as I have already had rads and the chance is it will do more harm than good but its worth finding out and the Dr hasn’t seen me yet!
I will be seeing Dr about pain releif and also he is part of the pallative care team so it will be good to have that contact in place.
After all that if I want to I might even have some more chemo as there is one that I haven’t had yet!!!

When I got home I emailed my GP to let him know what was going on and he phoned me back. Again discussed about pain relief which is all for the left side shoulder and arm area.
I have realised that I’m doing bits of suggestions like wearing a sleeve and I might even be taking a pain drug that is not the best type for the pain relief I need.

I have now taken off the sleeve I am still taking the MST but what I want to do is see whats going on so that when I see Dr P I have a clearer picture of what I need!!!..
Today the arm seems better for not having the sleeve on!!! Its nearly 4 and usually by now I’m uncomfortable so it will be an interesting excersise and one I hope works!!!

I have to say I have certainly got the spring back in my step must be the though of having another ‘gamma knife’ proceedure done and a night in the Wellington… bring it on!

So for now I am out of the bleek place I was in a few weeks ago…

I hope you are all getting some sunshine it makes such a difference!

Hi Biking girl. Wow it sounds like lots of positives and I’m guessing that you have had the gamma knife treatment before and know what’s coming. Hope this treatment does everything its supposed to. Life seems better when you can make the best of the positives.

Good on you. let us all know how it goes

Hi Bikinggirl

So good to hear your news.
From a bleak place to a spring in your step, it’s great to know when we think things are bad we can be wrong!

So pleased for you

love Sue xx

I was only thinking about you recently wondering why you haven’t posted for ages, so its good to get an update from you. Hope your treatment goes really well.

Hi Bikinggirl,
Great to hear from you with your news. Sounds quite a journey you’ve been on, but glad to hear you have a plan - that makes everything seem soooo much better doesn’t it? The gamma knife does sound a brilliant alternative to WLE from what I’ve read. It’s good you already have some idea what to expect.
Good luck with all the appointments,
love Jacquie x

I was wondering too, how you were as I hadn’t seen a post of recent. So glad to hear how you are and that there is good news amongst the not so good and that you have that all important plan. Best wishes

Hi Bikinggirl
I’ve read your posts in the past and am glad to hear from you again. I’m glad to hear you are feeling up again, as you say, it makes such a difference. Keep the positive feelings up, and I wish you every success with the gamma knife. Keep us posted how you get on.

Love Claire

Hi Bikinggirl
What a lot you’ve had to deal with recently but it sounds like your onc has a good treatment plan up his (her?) sleeve, certainly you sound really positive which is great. I hope that everything goes really well, especially with the gamma ray which was so good for you last time. Enjoy the sun and keep that spring in your step.
