Hi all ,im booked in on the 24th for my nipple recon and ive been put with another surgeon,also im not sure if i want my good boob touched.Its def sagging but the new one is still loads bigger and if i hav the uplift ill not only hav scars but it will be even smaller.Can anyone give me any info about their uplift???Thanx for reading this,Debs

I just had an uplift last week. Have had LOADS of problems with my recon and went in to mainly sort that out but agreed to have uplift at same time and so far I am delighted with the results. They are even again and after breastfeeding 3 kids, I have to say the results look better than I ever dared hope for. I have no sensation in my recon at all but am pleased that despite being warned it could happen in the other boob it hasn’t and I can still feel everything.

Hi eal69 thanks soooo much for replying,its made me feel better,one or two questions…was your new rcon breast much bigger than the remaining breast?..when you had uplift did they make it fuller in anyway becos mine is smaller now so if they chop into it will decrease…what is the scarring like around the nipple and how does the recon nipple look? Morning ladies! Can I just sneak in here please? Am due to have an uplift on ‘normal’ boob in a few months time, so do they do the nipple on the recon boob at the same time then?
Also, re: uplift, what’s the length of stay in hospital and recovery time (re: lifting and going back to work) - are the dreaded drains involved at all? (Had previous nightmare with those things.) I know everybody’s different with how they cope with ops., just wanted some sort of general idea.

My recon was originally the same size as my unaffected side but it never looked even as the recon stood up as I suppose a normal boob does but as I mentioned having breastfed 3 kids the other side was heading south anyway LOL!!!. I’m about a B cup. I had DIEP recon the same time as Mast in March 08 but unfortunately had horrendous problems with wound healing and fat necrosis. so very quckly my recon breast looked creased, scarred and not nice at all plus I had loads of pain - yuk! I got to keep my original nipple - something to do with the position of the original tumour I think- so didn’t need nipple recon.
I had remodelling of the recon and an uplift of the other side. The surgery on the recon side was difficult and consequently very painful afterwards but the surgeon said he had to cut out necrotic tissue right down to the muscles on my chest wall and so made the procdure long and the recovery painful. I did have one drain in but that was on the recon side not the uplift side. I stayed in overnight but again I think that was more to do with the recon than the uplift (plus I have young kids at home). The uplift side was definitely less painful. I didn’t drive for a week (seatbelt across the boobs a big issue). I actually went back to work straight away but I am home based. If I had to go into the office I would have needed a week off.
Debs my uplift didn’t change the size of the breast it’s just made it pert and now both breasts look even (OH laughs about me having the boobs of a 17 yr old now!!!- LOL!!) If it helps I did have a conversation with the BS as to whether to have an implant put in to even up the volume but the PS decided this was not necssary and he did some lipofil in the remodelling process. The nipple scarring is circular around the edge of the nipple with a straight line going down the bottom of the breast and then underneath the breast it’s big but you can’t see it because its underneath and I can tell that in a years time and lots of bio oil all you’ll see is white lines. They are not wide scars. Just red lines at the minute.

Hi again eal…when you say remodelling do you mean when your norm boob was uplifted your surgeon filled it out abit with Lipofil or was that done b4 the uplift? My girls all think that my old boob needs to be made bigger- then along with an uplift and new nipple I will feel finished & extremely grateful.Deb x

Yeah, I wondered the same thing as Deb, as - even with an uplift - I think it will be a bit smaller than the recon.
I’ve yet to come across somebody who didn’t have bother with these recon boobs. Mine was an LD Flap (back muscle used), and I was sent home with a 7 cms hole in my back which took 8 months to completely heal - daily district nurse visits for almost all that time - absolute nightmare!

sorry I wasn’t very clear. I just read my post. The PS remodelled my original recon because it had necrosed and gone yuk. His word was ‘remodelled’ I think that meant pulled about a bit and put back in the proper place as it was migrating towards my armpit - LOL! then he did some lipofil to fill in where he had to cut out the necrotic fat still in the recon boob. Then he did an uplift on the other side so they match and stay in the same postcode!.
Hope that makes sense! and good luck with your decisions. I feel like I’ve done the right thing for me but It definitely has been a bumpy road.

Oh no, I bet that’s what I have to have done with my recon., I thought it was just me - I’m sure the muscle is definitely trying to get back to where it originally came from. I seriously won’t know whether I’m coming or going with one boob round the back!

i had bilat tram recon in jan 07 then rads in april 07,rads shrunk left breast and left some fat necrosis,had uplift of right breast 08 but breast dropped again and left breast went flat on outer underneath leaving a sort of pear shape,had fat injection 3 weeks ago into the left to givesome bulk and nipple recon on right,problem is they are like a pair of scales,the lines under the breasts where your bra sits are at diferent levels,so the right hangs much lower,i can cope with that but its the breast that sufered from the rads i cant cope with,anyone else had this problem and what can be done,i feel so upset its freaking me out to the point i just want them off as i cant stand to see them.any info please distressed
