Nipple gone inverted again

hi all, just wanted some advice, had a partial lumpectomy for gr1 bc last year, february, great job clear margins, nothing in sentinel node biopsy, but now nipple the same as before in exactly the same place, i know i will have to go in and have a mamogram asap, is this normal, to have the bloody thing in the same place again! I did use oestogen cream and i had er+ receptor, i felt so ill on arimidex i stopped it. I am 56 and in menopause but have new younger husband! I guess I feel like ive made it come back, I wonder should I just have a masectomy or can they just open up the same place and take out the lump again? Any ideas ladies, bless you all xx

Hi drama queen

It sounds like you’re having a pretty tough time at the moment. Whilst you are waiting for the other forum users to reply with their experiences please do give the BCC helpline a call on 0808 800 6000. Here you can share your feelings and concerns with a trained member of staff who will offer you a listening ear as well as support and information. The lines are open weekdays 9 to 5pm and Saturday 9 to 2pm.

I hope this is helpful.

Best wishes Sam, BCC Facilitator

Hi Drama queen

sorry you are going thru this again. 1stly breast cancer is not the only cause of an inverted nipple but obviously cannot be ignored as it can be indicative of breast cancer as you are aware. It could also be oedema (fluid) around the wound site. A mammo US and biopsy will give you the results. I had a lumpectomy 1st time round followed by Mx 2nd time, my guess is if it is a recurrent BC then you will be offered a mastectomy but other options maybe discussed however I would seriously consider Mx, you could be offered immediate recon or something. Do not blame yourself IF it has returned no-one asks for breast cancer, it is indiscriminate.
