Nipple reconstruction second attempt

Has anyone ever had a second attempt at reconstruction? I had it done in October by the skin being twisted. However I had necrosis and there is hardly anything left just a flat bump which I am sure is still shrinking. I had to fight to get my remaing breast lifted, which is fantastic, so I am not sure how to broach this with the surgeon. He has put me on the waiting list for tattooing.  I thought I read somewhere one can be created by taking skin from another part of your body but now I can’t find it on the BCC information

Hi rebeldog. I had nipple sharing reconstruction last year. I had a big enough nipple on my surviving Breast that my plastic surgeon could take some off the top and use to make a new nipple on my reconstructed Breast. It won’t go flat and will make the colour matching easier when I have the surrounding area tattooed in a couple of weeks. I’ve lost no sensation in my nipple and am really happy with the results. I’d not heard of this type of reconstruction previously and think I’m just lucky that my PS can carry out this type. There was no information on the net so I basically had to trust him, which I did. I started a thread on the surgery forum ‘nipple sharing reconstruction’ which you might want to read. Hope this helps. Take care x

Hi Rebelodog!  I’ve been thinking about nipple reconstruction as I have an appointment with my surgeon in a couple of weeks to talk about it.  I see from the Breast cancer website that you can get a skin graft from the labia or inner thigh, but it’s an older method so not all surgeons will do this.  Also, I guess it would mean more scars, not so nice!  Are you on the waiting list or a 3-D tattoo, as that sounds like a good alternative?  I guess it just depends what your surgeon can offer.

I had a DIEP reconstruction on both sides so they replaced my nipples with skin from my stomach as part of the operation.  I assume they will use that new patch of skin to make the nipple, but I don’t know if it will work of course.  I had some fat necrosis after the reconstruction so I’m hoping the surgeon can do something about that too as it seems strange to get rid of the cancer lump only to be replaced with another lump under the skin!
