Nipple reconstruction
Nipple reconstruction Hi everyone
I had a mastectomy and recon at the same time using the back muscle and am very happy with how it looks. As yet I have no nipple, just a round scar where they removed the breast tissue.
I was wondering how they create a nipple for you. This has been mentioned but so far, until I see the surgeon again later, I have no idea how they do it and am interested as to how they do it?
I would be grateful for any info.
Thanks, Deborah xxx
Nipple Reconstruction Hi Deborahw
I have also had reconstructive surgery but could not have my nipple done because I have previously had radiotherapy on my chest area so therefore my DNA is different in this area than the rest of my body.
The procedure was explained to me though and they take a small area from the underneath of your little toe and transplant it on as a nipple. They then tattoo around the area so they look like nipples.
I know this sounds very strange but apparently it is very good.
I hope this helps

Mine was different Just replied to your post and lost it so will try again.
I had the same reconstruction as you 14 months ago, had a nipple reconstructed 6 months ago, they used the skin that was already there and just shaped it to form a nipple. I don’t know about you but I am quite numb in that area and did’nt need any form of anesthetic.
I am not so sure I would have had it done if another part of my body had to be involved, I think scars on my back and front are enough thank you.
I am going to have it tattooed in 2 weeks, again I have wondered whether or not to bother, but I may as well finish the job off.
Wishing you all the best for the rest of your treatment.
Take care.

Hi Deborah,
I had nipple recon using a nipple sharing technique. As i had a large nipple, half of it was cut off and grafted onto the ‘new’ breast. Sounds awful, but was easy, and looks excellent. Compared to other methods, it will not flatten over time, and after tattooing around, is a very good match.
