@jayesse you picked a good title as it happens, which was clear in its topic ‘no hormone therapy-support’.
Quite reasonable to think that it could be support for people who have decided to not take hormones and realise its a tough decision, as opposed to people who do take hormones despite the bad side effects- there are already forums for that, which people in those circumstances, can join, this topic is not for them. This is why I don’t post on TNBC, or for younger people - I didn’t have that kind on cancer, and I am sadly not young anymore. I also don’t post on male prostate cancer forums - because I didnt have that either. I rest my case. Some people mistakenly post in the wrong places, in the wrong way.
Hello Frances @Frances55
I hope you have the same sunny weather that I have.
Thank you for clarifying that you were trying to put some balance into the conversation.
I agree with you that these forums generally don’t have many people posting positive experiences (on all aspects of treatment). I think it’s true what someone else said - that most people only use forums when they are looking for an answer to a difficulty or going through a rough patch, so the majority of posts have a ‘natural’ bias towards the more negative side of things.
Thinking about what you said about it mainly being negative and the need to balance out with some good stuff too - perhaps we could all consider sharing some of the positives we have experienced on new threads - to show others that not everything is negative. Mine would be that surgery was absolutely fine for me and all my fears were unfounded.
If we can put some positive threads out there it would help balance out the weight of the ones that are presenting the drawbacks, the difficult choices we have to make, the fears etc.
Do you think that this might be something worth doing? X
Yep, there’s no point in totally sucking the joy out of life. I for 1, will be down the pub tomorrow night, only for the 2nd time this year so far. I haven’t decided how much I’ll be drinkinking -it will most likely be more than 5 units, but that’s my choice. Will I enjoy it ? - heck yea. Will I have a hangover- hopefully not, as I do apply common sense and know my limitations and experience has taught me, its not worth it, I’d rather feel healthy the next day too.
Life is about balance and happiness, and it will make me happy.
Go for it @entropy !!!
I’m have a well earned curry out tonight. It’ll play havoc with the IBS but it’s got to be done. Xx
Enjoy, I love a good curry - usually prawn or veg for me, as I’ve been pescatarian over 4 years.
Hi jayesse,
What a brilliant idea. Bless you. I agree that sometimes people only use the forum when they are going through their dark days, and what a wonderful source of support it can be. You’re quite right there are positive aspects too as you say, successful surgery and quick recovery, that type of thing. It’s so tough this journey but I think it’s nice for people to hear that they will and can get through it and that for many, life can return to some semblance of ‘normal’, whatever that is! Enjoy the sunshine wherever you are, and the daffodils too.
Xx
Please can you let me know how I can set up a private group chat for people who have had to stop hormone therapy and would like to support each other. Thank you
Hi @jayesse,
I believe the way @Jill1998 described is probably the best option I can think of! I’ll have a chat with other moderators and get back to you if we think there’s a different way.
Thank you
I was prescribed ribocibilib recently.
Made me ill. I go to clatterbridge cancer centre Liverpool. There are three 'lib ’ meds.
I’ve chosen palliative care and bisfosphanates iv .
I don’t get on with medication xx
Hello @shaw1
How are you feeling at the moment? I hope you have good support to help you.
Big hug x
Hello shaw, thank you for your comments. I am getting so much help from this helpful thread and I will bookmark it and return to read it again.
I don’t believe there is any right or wrong way to proceed with breast cancer. We all have to make the best choices for ourselves.
With respect oncologists may want the best for us and I do believe this sincerely, but we the patients have to tolerate the treatment not the oncologist and a caring oncologist I believe will be guided by a patient if the patient is unable to cope with treatment.
I am glad Shaw you have made your decision and I hope you are doing as well as possible with your treatment choices and that you will remain safe and well and will stay with us for a good while longer xx
Hi @shaw1 we have ‘spoken’ a couple of times on this forum and it’s so important that you can share your own experiences. You have to do what is right for you.
Thinking of you
Thank you for your kindness - I’m sorry that you have had such an awful time of it as well . I can’t imagine what it must have been like dealing with that pressure and having chemo as well. i also have dealt with the estate and from 80 miles away . We finally sold Dad’s bungalow earlier this month and I do feel lighter now that that responsibility has been lifted . Xx
Hi Alice_BCN,
Sorry am I wrong to think that mine and @Frances55 posts were edited by you? But for @naughty_boob is okay to be judgemental?
With whom can I raise this issue?
Best,
mun4o
mun40 morning,
I thought exactly the same. It seems my “wimping out” comment got me into hot water! I noticed they forgot to delete it further down the thread. I only used it as a ‘turn of phrase’, never to offend anyone and I apologised!
It seems our views about sticking with hormone therapy aren’t wanted on this thread. Surprising that a medical professional could edit our opinions and find our perspective offensive. As we know, some people cope well on it and therefore can get the benefit, albeit sometimes a very small benefit statistically, but personally I’ll take that thank you if it stops the bugger coming back! Oops, there I go again using naughty words!
I think we should both ‘bow out gracefully’ enjoy a bit of sunshine and get on with our day.
All the best x
@Frances55 good morning and what a lovely morning it is! The Sun is shining and I can’t agree with you more…let’s get on with our day [Edited due to Community Guidelines]
wishing you all the best
Morning all, Here is a suggestion for a nutritious and easy to prepare breakfast to support our bodies and keep us well - egg and sardines on toast. I toast a slice of wholemeal, rye, or sourdough bread. Then top with some mashed tinned sardines. I get the ones in spring water and not in sunflower oil. ( Sunflower oil is chemically extracted so best avoided as chemicals contain toxins). The bread doesnt need buttering first but add a little drizzle of extra virgin olive oil if preferred. I top with scrambled egg or a little omelette. Into the beaten egg I add ground black pepper (anti bacterial) and a pinch of turmeric. Garnish with chopped fresh parsley, chives, or watercress. The sardines, egg, and turmeric are all anti inflammatory. The garnish contains iron and vitamins. If microwaving scrambled egg put the beaten egg in a mug or similar. Not a plastic container as toxins in the plastic will leach into the egg when cooking. I also wash my parsley in a bowl of water with a teaspoon of bicarbonate of soda mixed in to help remove any residuary pesticides. This was a common practise for washing veg in Victorian times as I understand. I keep this veg washing water bowl on my kitchen counter and use it for a whole day to wash other veg for lunch and dinner. Any leftover sardines from the tin I store in a clean jam jar in the fridge. Love Tulip x
Hi everyone, thank you for an interesting debate, it’s really useful for those like me who are much earlier in their journey (awaiting treatment and facing hormone blockers) to read all sides of a debate and everyone’s experiences. I really hope the debate and support thread stays public as there will be so many people like me that will get a lot out of reading it. We are all on the same side, it’s the cancer that we are against and not each other - wishing everyone the absolute very best xxx
Hi Tulip, your post made me feel sick I have been getting waves of nausea for days, can’t work out if it’s HRT withdrawal or the stress catching up with me! Your recipe would sound amazing on a normal day (what are those again?!). I’m interested about your sourdough - just wondered if you make your own or if you’ve found somewhere that sells a quality one? I’ve been meaning to brave making my own as forever reading shop ones aren’t great from a health perspective, but I do like them. Thanks
