Morning Girls
Decided to post under chit chat and fun although those of you who have read my REMOVED thread will know that my life is far from that at the moment! However, my ability to laugh has always been the best tonic and I hope you can all have a giggle with me and at me and I promise not to say ‘Ball bag’ again Opphs!
Nob visited yesterday and seemed quite pleased that I was covered in paint and the house was a tip. Told me that I wouldn’t keep the new lodger for more than a week if I didn’t clear up. Told him to either get henry hoover out or bugger off which he did… Bugger off that is! Feel quite nervous about the new lodger arriving, and also quite stressed but it’s money and looks like I shall be able to pay the mortgage this month! One of you said earlier that happy pills stop you from crying, well I haven’t since I found out about my lump being OK! Trying to keep on my uppers about everything, but I really must open the god dam bills!
Back to my lump. I’ve been told that it’s a small op and I will only be in for a day. How do you feel after, much pain etc? I did have a vein removed once which was an in and out case, but they failed to tell me I wouldn’t be able to walk for a week and the bruising was so great I’m convinced I must have fell off the operating table. ha ha!
Well I suppose I’d better get on with my tip of a house. Will let you know all about my new lodger!
Hugs to you all

I assume you are having WLE to remove the lump - it’s a small operation and the recovery period is fairly short. I had node sampling at the same time - the one good thing about my nasty little lump was it was in a good position near to my armpit so I only had one incision … if they are not testing your nodes then you will not have to worry about that tho.
I had one drain which was in until the next day and once this was removed I was allowed home. I found the main problem to be the restricted mobilty in my arm for a couple of days afterwards - don’t ask for pork chops for tea cos I did then sat like a daftie whilst the others tucked in … had to ask my Mam to cut it up for me!
Take arnica tablets for a couple of days prior to the op and this should cut down on the bruising. Pain wise I didn’t suffer very much - more stiffness than anything else. Found it a bit difficult to get to sleep at first but that was cos I was unable to lie on that side so it was a bit different.
Good luck with the op and the lodger - and well done for not taking no poo from Nob.
Hi Chrissie
Glad to see you are back with us and that you sent Nob packing again. You do sound as though you have grown so much stronger since your original posting. As for your op, I had a WLE with no nodes to be removed. I did have drains, though. I was operated on at about 3 in afternoon and discharged the next morning. I needed some pain relief the night in hospital, but only tablets. I went home with drains in which meant I could not very little in terms of lifting on that side cos everytime I moved, the drains pinched and that did hurt! Got them removed the day after and apart from some swelling and tenderness was OK. You probably wont be able to do anything much like painting for a few days and will need to rest a bit because you will have had surgery, albeit quite small. Good luck

Hi Chrissie,
Glad to hear your life is improving on all fronts! Don’t forget on the Rent a Room scheme you don’t pay tax on the first £4500 approx per year. Lay down the rules VERY firmly on what is acceptable from your lodgers and what isn’t, it’s always easier to relax them later than have to toughen up.
Don’t wear yourself out too much, Good Luck!
Beginning to think we should have a Relationship Problems site here somewhere, a lot of postings aren’t dealing directly with treatment/diagnosis, whatever, but the fall-out from it all. Any Moderators listening???

Hi Chrissie
Feel as I know you personally !! Have you got a date for your op? and is there anybody who can help with the girls when you come out so that you can rest?
Did you let nob through the door? Keep him on the step missus !!
When will your lodger move in? How does it work? will he do his own cooking and just get on with things as though it was his own house ?
Much love
Liz xx
Chrissie - make sure you take a huge deposit off your lodger in case of damage, non payment of rent etc Are you getting a tenanacy agreement drawn up ? You can buy the form from HMSO and do it yourself. Better to be safe than sorry. Good Luck.
Hi Everyone
Don’t have a date for my op but I have asked for a cancellation if possible just to get it out the way! The op sounds worse than the doctor said. My lump is just above my nipple so I’m hoping my bra will hide the scar. When I went for my results I was sure it had got bigger then realised it was because my boobs have got smaller with all the weight I’ve lost, on the plus side my bum has gotten smaller also. ha ha
All these things you have mentioned about the lodger… Oh nooooo I hadn’t thought about any details. I have told him I want 2 months in advance but as he’s only going to be here 6 weeks??? I really hope he isn’t expecting me to cook for him!!!
Thanks for all your support girls

Morning Chrissie
You can’t make an omelette without breaking eggs and I’m sure when the painting is done, order will be restored. Olivia07 makes two very good points about a deposit and an agreement and I would urge you to look into these.
In my experience, all the nurses and everyone else involved in your care have been fabulous and don’t be afraid to ask for help or pain relief if you need it. One tip is to take a carrier bag into hospital with you to put your drain in so it’s easier to walk around with.
Keep laughing that will stand you in good stead.

Hi Dawnflower
Excuse my ignorance but what exactly is a drain for? Does everyone have one?
Chrissie xxxxx
When they take the lump out you get a bit of fluid collecting in the area - they just stick a drain in to get rid of it.
Hey ! our hospital must be posh !!! we had matching gowns and drain bags !!! I had 5 drains in (mastectomy with reconstructions chrissie so don’t get worried!) I kept forgetting about them and used to set off walking. Not recommended.
Liz xx
I did the forget and walk thing too Lizzie - my drain bottle was hooked to the side of the bed with a sort of cable tie thingy … when I told my other half I was not used to be attached to a bed he said had we known he wouldn’t have minded helping me practice!
Ha !!! I bet he did !!! Now then aren’t you the same who suggested knee pads the other night ?? I think i am getting the picture ! x
Hi Chrissie
Welcome back. I must admit I didn’t find the lumpectomy too bad at all pain wise. A few years ago before my BC was diagnosed , I had a lump removed, which was benign and can’t remember that affecting my breast at all, either pain wise or shape. However, when I had my lumpectomy prior to my mastectomies, my breast actually moved up about half an inch, when the tumour had been removed. I wasn’t very impressed, especially when a month or so later after finding out it was breast cancer and I needed bilateral mastectomies, the Plastic Surgeon who examined me to book me for reconstruction, said “Have you always been lop sided”. I thought you cheeky sod, not until you lot gots your mits on them. Anway a month and a half after the lumpectomy had the bilateral mastectomies and immediate recon, so I suppose compared to that it didn’t seem very painful at all !!! I know I had no problems with any movements after the lumpectomy and apart from the initial pain control on the ward, didn’t need a lot of medication when I came home. I suppose everyone will have different experiences.
As someone else has said you sound a lot more positive, so good on ya girl. Keep your spirits up. Can I have a lodger too, only if he’s 6 ft, broad shouldered with twinkly blue eyes.
Julie
And me please x
Just Had to take a break from Henry Hoover, wish the little bugger would stop grinning at me! The lodgers new room looks great for a ‘bodge it and leg it’ paint job!
Julie… I do still have the polish guys number, he was at least 6ft, blonde with very blue eyes. English wasn’t that good but that’s a bonus. You would however have to take his brother on also on a buy one get on free basis. ha ha
It’s starting to seem that I may not be able to manage without help after the lumps been removed! hmmmmm Have to think about asking someone to look after the girls for a day or so.
As for being positive, I’ve decided that by this time next year I will be in a much smaller manageable house (This is a huge 3 floor victorian house) with just my girls and dogs, I can be wined and dined but I’ll never let another bloke get his feet under my table again. If I ever say I’ve met someone… Shoot me!

Hi Chrissie
Glad to hear you feel a bit more positive. We are all here to give you support
My lump was just above my nipple also. I also had a a full clearance of lypmthnodes… will you be having nodes removed?? I had 2 incisions, one on the breast and one under the arm.I went home with a drain fitted, for 5 days day after surgery.
Will you have any help when you do come home?? Don’t try to do much because you will need to rest and have time for yourself to recover.
take care and big hugs

Hi Kirsty
The doctor just mentioned the lump. I don’t think I managed to take everything in as once she said benign I just sat there with a stupid grin on my face (no change there then) What are the chances that I wake and find they’ve had to do more?
Chrissie I think they only remove the lymph nodes if your lump is cancerous, they remove one or more nodes to check if the cancer has spread…so you shouldnt need this doing.
Hi Chrissie
Oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooh, sounds just my type. Especially the fact he won’t understand me. I tend to waffle, not a good move when you’re trying to chat up. On the BOG OFF offer I bet his brother looks like a weeble, so I don’t know if I’d get my money’s worth.
I like the sound of the 3 storey victorian house as well. Can we swop, I’ve got a 3 bed semi, with the bog standard living room, dining room, and 3 beds, and with 1 dog, four cats, 1 goldfish, 1 hamster, and a partner with a penchant for Ebay, who keeps buying and selling on I’ll need extra space. Also I need couple of spare bedrooms for the polish workforce I seem to be inheriting.
On a more serious note, it certainly wouldn’t do any harm to make arrangements or get help for your daughter for a day or so. After any op you always feel grotty for a couple of days anyway just with the anaesthetic alone, so it might be wise.
