Just wondered if anyone else has had this problem…
Went for my annual mammo today and got turned away. I’ve had surgery, chemo, rads and currently taking tamoxifen and my periods have still not settled down since chemo (in 2010). Apparently not menopausal (sorry about the spelling) due to being 36 but becuase I haven’t had a period since the end of Feb I could be pregnant. Despite not having a period since November before that and two negative pregnancy tests later, still not good enough. I now have to make an appt with the nurse at my doctors and have a blood test to prove i’m not pregnant. I have not had unprotected sex with my husband (bit too much information) and never would and I know nothing is 100% but i can’t go through this every year!!!
I don’t understand at all. My Periods are v irregular and am currently 2 wks late. I had my mammo on Monday and they asked me I said not preg, but can’t be 100% sure as not tested… I just had to sign the form to say I understood the risk and it went ahead.
Diff authorities I suppose. Sorry about the extra stress from this. It’s the last thing u need.
I think that is awful treatment!
A simple urine sample while you were there would have been perfectly adequate to test for pregnancy. How many ladies do these people turn away? Why would a blood test be required? What an expensive waste of resources. This infuriates me, as I work for the NHS, sometimes common sense is too timid to show its head!!!
They could have quite easily done a pregnancy test. Next time round speak to the unit the week before, so they don’t do this again. You’d be surprised (or maybe not) how often we have to Self Manage our treatments and chase up results etc…lack of communication and all that.
