Not sure what to do

Hello I’m 36 year old and went in for a checkup because I was getting pain in my stomach and my gyno told
Me I should see a gastro DR. Since I haven’t been to the Gyno is 2 years she asked to Check my breasts and she said she felt a 2cm sized mass in my left breast and sent me for an ultra sound and a mammo. The mammo and ultra sound didn’t see anything in my left breast and didnt feel anything either but did see a small mass in my right breast. The Dr said they want me to come back in 6 months to check again to see if the mass on the right changes. Isn’t 6 months a long time to wait? I have no Discharge from my breasts and I don’t believe BV runs in my family. They didn’t want to
Give me an MRI because I’ve had a few in the past 2 years because of kidneystones.

Should I wait the 6 months?

Hi Lynda,

This is a difficult one to answer. No-one on here would want to give you the wrong info. Perhaps be best if you phone the helpline here to speak to one of the trained staff.

Sorry about the double reply, the web page is being silly.

Sorry for the grammatical errors. I was using my phone and had to type quickly before my train had entered a tunnel. Thank you for your reply

yes i think thats right, the helpline are the best people to ask, they are experts at this sort of thing

This was a gastric specialist who saw you, not a breast specialist? In your position I would go back to my GP and ask for a referral to a breast clinic, on the basis of the doc’s findings. You have a right to ask for a second opinion, and the referral to a breast clinic is the best place for that second opinion from people who see breasts all day every day. Your GP may or may not give you an urgent referral. Don’t worry if you get an urgent one (in fact, ASK for one!) because that means you will be seen within 2 weeks. Non-urgent I think has to be seen within 6 weeks. That’d be a shorter time to wait than the 6 months your other doc is talking about.

Incidentally, a breast MRI doesn’t go anywhere near your kidneys, so I just don’t understand what the logic is for not giving you an MRI… possibly because the doc you saw was not a breast specialist.

And do give the helpline a ring too, they may have other things to suggest.

To reassure you, most breast lumps referred to the breast clinic are nothing to worry about and can be all sorts of benign conditions. So please don’t automatically think you’ve got cancer, chances are very much on your side.

I agree with Choccie go see your GP and explain all. In my experience 6 months is too long to wait and you will only worry for the whole 6 months! Keep in mind what Choccie said even if the mass/lump is there doesn’t nec mean it is cancer and then maybe you can stop worrying!!!
