Does codeine cause constipation and can I take a laxative whilst taking them? X sorry to be disvussing poo first thing in the morning but not been since op on Tuesday xx

Hi Sue, yes Codeine is awful at causing constipation ? I can’t take it as makes me feel terrible! Can’t see any reason why you shouldn’t take laxatives , nothing worse than not being able to go! Plenty of prunes and bran too should get things moving! xx

Interesting you should mention this sue, i was consipated for a week after my op, and i never suffer with this, i took codiene and paracetomol the day after my op, i was blaming the anesceptic, not sure which it was, but i went back to normal.

 

I have heard prune juice is good

I was constipated before the surgery… not sure when I last went.  Taking codeine, so not sure if I’ll ever go again.

Hi Sue, codeine gave me awful constipation. I got a stool softener in prep, but actually managed with bags of liquorice , prunes on my porrage, upped the intake of fresh fruit and loads of water to soften everything. Still to put it bluntly, had hard times! X

Liquorice is my favourite confection didn’t realise it had a laxative effect Have took medicine but not working yet Mmmmm liquorice lol x

Codeine and anaesthetic will bung you up. Also if they gave you morphine during surgery. I’ve been the same after all (5) ops, look about 6 months pregnant for a week or 2!

Ask nurse for laxido or movacol.

Thanks river I got medicine took 2 lots yesterday and 1 today so hopefully something happen soon x

Thanks girly will see if I go later don’t want to try too much coukcvhsve disastrous consequences ??? I did have morphine during surgery so probably all add to this ‘problem’ a couple of months ago I would never have thought it would be normal to discuss poo on s website lol xxx thanks all
