Only just caught up with the thread…I live just off St Albans Road…and if you want to see my reconstruction we could meet up…bit hard on here as you cant put personal info.
I used to go to the support group at the hospital…but a lot of elderly ladies and not much happens…flower arranging, glass painting…then swimwear sales some good chats with guest consultants…a couple of my friends still go though. We even joined the committee but found it hard to try and make changes to encourage more people to go.
Sorry to hear your news but you will be fine…your in great hands.
I have secondaries of the ovary and the omentum around my bowel and have just finished chemo again (well I think Ive finished not really sure till next Wednesday when I see Dr Chan)
I read with interest your view on the support group at Nottm BI, I too share those observations, I did meet a couple of younger ladies there but I did come away thinking it wasn’t for me. I felt like being a rebel and starting another support group but treatments took over and I guess I shouldn’t really appear to set up a ‘rival’ group. Perhaps it could just have been an ‘alternative’ group. I have since found this site as helpful as any reading or meetings.
We used to have another group called Young Angels but unfortunately it got disbanded as not enough help.A few of our girls still go to the hospital support group though.I agree with your comment on this site…its very helpful and informative.
Hi all, I was at City yesterday for bone density scan - I arrived 30 mins early expecting to go away for a coffee and a long wait, but they did me early - very friendly too. I haven’t tried any groups - sounds a bit WI-ish, Ann. Mind you, what with all the lovely flowers I’m getting… Flower arranging lessons should come with the diagnosis, maybe!
Thanks Cryst sounds like all is going well for you Im pleased yes ours sounds similar and they are going to do a similar procedure on me taking away the nipple and areola then tissue out filling up again then a round piece of skin over the top of it Im just confused right now as to which one to have the tummy or back still cant decide really. How was your recovery Im 43 at the mo got a 5 and 6 year old and no support network so im really worried at the mo as to how long it will take me to recover I have a grown up daughter but coz she works full time cant always be there so how did you find life after the op? Sorry for been so nosey!! xxx
Wow that sounds great that you could do that after 6 days brilliant!!! Obviously i realise everyone is different well hopefully i will be ok as my kids will be at school one of the mums will take and bring them home for me so ill just have them a few hours til my daughter gets home so i must take advantage of the free time and get plenty of rest time.
Hi everyone, the pink carnation with user name sounds like a brilliant idea. As I now only have to go once a year for annual check up I would be unlikely to meet up with any of you by chance. I will check out the monthly support group and let you all know when it is. We could try it out.

Melek… I have left you a PM but its in the PM forum.
Cryst…glad you got your first one out of the way. I have been to the chemo unit today for bloods to be taken. I should have worn a pink carnation…LOL Hope you don’t have too many side effects.
Heidicat…If youyd like me to come along with you on your first support group meeting let me know as I know quite a few of them there.
Hello again everyone. I have just looked up the leaflet they gave me about the Nottingham Breast Cancer support group. Apparently meetings are held in the breast institute on 3rd Tuesday of each month. So I think that means the next one is on 18th March 7.30 til 9.30. Anyone fancy going?

Hi Heidicat, probably not good for me as I’m in chemo the day before. But another month maybe if anyone is up for it. Thank you for getting the info for is.
