Out of interest did or is anyone working throughout their chemotherapy

Hi babypink I’m starting chemo weekly on Thursday Nov 5th so I hope to have Thurs-Sun off and work Mon-Wed I have been told side effects are less when having it weekly but I do have to be careful of infection as I have a public facing job… I think from what I have read it’s s bigger dose 3 weekly so may be harder to do and it all depends of your job and risk of infection. X x x

Hi Babypink I work in a hospital so wont be working during chemo as its a total bugfest over the winter, plus lots of other people rely on my doing what I do right first time and if im off my game it impacts on patients so its a few months of box sets on bad days and walks in the park on good days for me I think some people manage to but I guess it depends on your job and how at risk it puts you of infection. My BCN said my onc didnt mind people working during chemo but they couldnt work specific days in their cycle and it depended on what they did for a living. My previous job in the NHS would have been fine small team of 4 not in a hospital none of us in contact with patients and my own office to quarantine myself in

Hi Babypink

I have be wondering the same - I am planning to try and work or at least give it a go. I work in a Secondary school but have my own office I have hide away in and it isn’t a role that I’d be in contact with kids and I can also work from home aswell. It’s a really good point re knowing your limits and learning to say no. Not my strong point. I have been in 2 minds as it is also quite a busy role and I work on my own but it’s that whole thing if keeping some normality if that’s possible. I will give it a try during first cycle which starts on Monday morning. Pre appt on Friday morning for bloods. I’m sure I am fighting off a cold keeping anyone away who isn’t feeling well. So hard when it’s your daughter tho! Got to keep the positive thoughts going.

Got my start date today 9th Nov eeek 3 or 4 EC (started at 4 but he said he would review at 3 and maybe stop there) then 12 weekly taxol with herceptin. CT reduls today were good no spread past lymph nodes so Just got an echo to get out of the way before treatment starts then wig fitting booked for week after.

Hi all just wondering about scarfs/wigs/caps etc. start chemo Monday and appt for fitting not happened yet. Concerned I won’t feel well enough to go but know I’ll need to sort something to help feel a bit better. Any advice to start me off? Thanks all xx

Annabandana for cheap but pretty scarves and hats which come quickly x I then went to e*ay for some cheaper but servicable ones coming from china so I got sensible black and Navy from annabandana then crazy ones from china some of those arrived superquick too. If you have pashminas you can look on youtube how to tie them a friend gave me some elastic headbands (they look like a normal bobble only longer) i practiced last night and used a scarf to make a bun then held it together with the “bobble” it looked good x hubby pointed out I am sort of “lucky” as its hat season anyway as there are hats in the shops and everyone will be wearing them soon so I though oooh yeah and bought some beanies from pr*mark too!

Hi Janey Just popping in from August. Most of our hair didn’t start to shed until day 15-20, so plenty of time for your fitting.  Also most felt normalish again after 5-8 days, so you will be fine to go week 2/week 3. All the best with everything ladies. xx

Thanks all for the advice going for my onc nurse appt and bloods at 10 this morning so will may sure I pop in to see after. I sure I remember seeing the shop there at my last appt. Any excuse for a bit of retail therapy ?.

I got two wigs yesterday one long one mid length. I love the long one been practicing putting them in and off

Investing semi permanent eyebrows found a lady that does work for NHS for breast reconstruction and chemo treatment. It’s a bit expensive but she seems spot on and comes recommend

Don’t get me wrong I felt rather conspicuous with my wig on but we had a laugh in the shop. The really expensive one was sort of 1977 flick type looked like a park star lol. But I did like it. So went for one not dissimilar but with a fringe and a bit shorter. But don’t look like a porn star (I hope)

Marie I have appointments galore between now and the 3rd and my brain is fried so may take a tech break so if I dont get on before xx big hug for your first session xx

Janey x love and hugs for tomorrow, ratti love and hugs for the 4th we can do this!! xx

Im starting the 9th now

Ah thank you Jen Jen. Getting nervous now and feel really cold and shaky this evening. Just can’t get warm - I am so hoping it is nerves and not a cold!! I don’t know what I’d do if there was a delay

Good luck raiti and Jen Jen. Your so right we can do this and we will!!

Lots of love XX

Janey x it’ll be nerves I get like that just want to scooch down in a hoodie under a duvet and still feel cold. xx

Hi Tracy

Great news re CT scan

Yep 3 EC 12 Taxol  for me plus herceptin.
I am under Christies too, are you under Mr W? They took me in a week early and had no results so he couldnt see me he was very apologetic but it didnt do anything for the anxiety levels so I had to go again this week. Looks like im a week infront of you for everything chemo then surgery (mine is at hope) then radiotherapy.

I made my appointment at Nicky Oliver but had to cancel it as got an echo at Christie the same time now, did you book at dimples I was considering going there too but I figure out if I had to book. I have decided not to cold cap as I think mine will go anyway and I dont want to give myself false hope plus I I want to be in and out as fast as possible so I decided i wouldnt.

Mr W was asking the outreach staff if i could move to the mobile units for chemo so I hope they have sorted that for round 2 ,

Love Jen x

Ta for the reassurance Kazzer x it helps that peoplw going through it say its doable x

Hi Tracy, yes I had all my chemo at home under bupa healthcare. Cold cap unit is like a small fridge with hat attached, you wouldn’t be able to transport it back and forth to hospital!

Well worth trying, after the first 10 mins its fine. Just have to make sure you have a really good fit.

Hi Ratti
I was planning on asking my oncologist re at least what I take now so multivitamin, zinc, vitamin C and vitamin E but then I forgot so I need to ask when I see him next. If I can carry on taking them then I will. I have been looking at other things but could end up like a maraca if I bought everything I fancied in holland n barrett  I am worried I wont eat right so want to at least get some good stuff in me

xx

Hi Ratti x seems we are on the same lines I did an online shop yesterday and stocked up on tinned fruuy, veg and some soups. I ordered a soup maker so add that onto my slow cooker and smoothie maker I already had I should be able to get some goodness into me. I suppose taking new stuff could have side effects or reactions as they arent tried and tested on you already so that makes sense, will ask about what I am on already though.

x love and hugs to all this week x ! We can do this!

Morning ladies! We’re just enroute to hospital now ?. After cold and shivery last night feel a bit more normal this morning thankfully so fingers crossed all systems go! Just want to get on with it now and kick C well and truly into touch!! We can do this
Re food - I love my juicer so planning on a few green juices to help get some goodness in. Xx
