Not had the best day - day 4 of first T. Felt really listless, legs really achy, furry taste in my mouth …
I rang the 24 hour line last night as my temp had gone up to 37° but doc just told me to take paracetamol for achy legs - he wasn’t too concerned as I was only on day 4 & not days 7-14. He also told me I should expect some sort of reaction whilst being on chemo. Very helpful - not!!
The paracetamols helped with achy legs.

Hi all, hope everyone’s chugging along ok. About to go to bed here in Oz, but a quick question about a phantom SE. Has anyone had trouble with painful wrists / backs of hands? Weird jointy ache, almost like my veins – on both left and right hands – are aching. Moves up and down between knuckles and lower arm. I’ve been having FEC through a drip in the back of my hand. Am I imagining the pain?

Maybe this is a silly question but do you think the aches are SE from T or the injections ? just curious as I get achy from the injections and take ibuprofen before injecting and also if it gets too bad, dreading the thought of double aches ?

Hi harryfidfker, that’s normal se on fec, use heat pad and ibruprofen gel also mention to your onc at next appointment and tell them you’ve been using heat pad and the gel, that’s what my onc said was fine when my arm/hand was like that caused by the fec. Good news is t is a not as harsh on the veins, so you will feel the tightness releasing when you move to t. Hope that helps ???have a good nights sleep lovely ???

Sorry I can’t help with the hand/wrist thing as I haven’t experienced anything like that maybe the other ladies have.
But wanted to say please try not to worry about T, like you I have my first T next week and if I am honest are probably as terrified as I was before I started FEC, but I made it through that, and I will make it through T. We just have become familiar with FEC and it’s SE and we are approaching the unknown, but we have these lovely ladies for support, and we are lucky as we are bringing up the rear and have the help and guidance of the ladies that go before us.
So next week we will both put our big girl pants on and be brave ?

That’s interesting Lesley, my trust does the back of the hand for the canula, it’s amazing how much things differ across the trusts. I am ?holding your hand and your gold hotpants my darling and no tears unless it’s tears for fears everybody wants to rule the world and we are dressed in our white shirt suits and white stilettos and our button style necklaces and matching earrings and it’s the 1980’s again. Its been 6 days since I had my first T and first herceptin. The aches started for me on day 4 and I’ve been resting in bed as the aches and pains have been painful. Ive been on the ibuprofen and magnesium and hopefully these pains will go soon. I’ll keep you all posted xx
Hello everyone, hope the side-effects, especially those horrid aches and pains in the joints begin to improve soon.
Lesley, bursting into tears is allowed, although I am sorry you felt rubbish. I am glad you got hugs and friendship to help you through. I hope they sort out the dressing nonsense soon. Take it easy and do something lovely and be gentle to yourself until T-day.
I am just back from the clinic and am all set for final EC on Thursday before moving to Paclitaxel in three weeks time. Next time at the clinic will be when I get to hear what changes to expect in terms of side-effects etc. For now, I am going to push on (and be brave about that bloody port access) on this final ride on the EC roundabout. Onwards (but probably not upwards at least until day 10 or so). xx

Jc hope your doing ok, my temp went wild on the t. Way up then way down. It made me hesitant to use paracetamol so I could see what was actually happening but then was really achey from injections. Catch 22. Look after yourself x

Harry Fiddler welcome xxx. I get back of hand cannula 2 fec and one t so far. Arm really ached on fec. Think it was otter that described it as feeling like veins too short??? I just keep stretching my arm out and giving it a little rub. Has eased on t but still tender in moving places x.
Elorac aches for me seemed to only come from injections. Hoping clarytn eases them this time x
Lesley, sooooo sorry for your bubble but better out than in. Sometimes it just builds up. I cried like a baby first chemo session for nooooo reason. Maybe it was the build up of unknown switiching to t. Much love xxx

I am currently in steroid limbo. Bloods from yesterday borderline :0( gotta get checked again in morning before seeing onc. Don’t want delayed again :0( have had to start steroids today so fingers crossed I have made loads of WBC today!
On a positive note I managed a half day skiing on Saturday woo hoo!!! Maybe that’s where WBC went :0( that’ll teach me but I Will Not Be Beaten!!!xxx

Did they tell you to take painkillers for the joint pain in advance or have you been in touch with the unit?

I phoned the unit last night as my temp had gone over 37° and I wasn’t feeling well. The doctor told me to take either 2 paracetamol (500g each) or 1 paracetamol with 1 cocodimol xx
