November 2023 chemo starters

I should have 2 more to go out of 8, but the 2 weekly paclitaxel is too much for me and after the delay my fingers are still not improving so my onco has changed me to 9 low weekly cycles. Will be better in the long run i suppose but takes the mick when i’ve more cycles to go than what i started with and at least i won’t have to inject myself with any more filgrastim!

Sorry your fingers are not improving but it is good that your dosage has been reduced and changed to weekly. Yes, treatment is longer but hopefully your symptoms will improve. Good that you won’t have to inject. Every cloud …… Keep going X

You are getting there @countrygirl1
I hope your fingers improve soon, @jolly_bongo_owner hopefully the weekly treatment will be more manageable
I had a MRI this week to check progress and I got the result today - my tumour has shrunk from 41mm to 12mm so a great response so far.
Got my bloods done today and they are much better this week so ok for treatment tomorrow after missing the last 2 weeks. I get taxel, carbo and pembro tomorrow then 2 more weekly taxels before I move on to EC so getting there
Hope you are all ok and manage to have an ok weekend

That’s brilliant news! You must be so pleased to know that the treatment is working and you can move forward. Hope it goes well tomorrow. x

Oh wow, that’s an impressive reduction! I’m really not getting on with the taxol and found EC much easier. I had a reaction to it today and a 1 hour infusion turned in to a 6 hour stay due to my face going bright red and having a really tight chest. They stopped the infusion, gave me another injection which made me instantly better, and re-started the infusion a lot slower xx

I always seem to get that with my face going bright red during taxel too, I have had a lot of different side effects with it and just had antibiotics a couple of times during the last few weeks. I hope it gets easier for you, I think they are reducing my dose for the last few taxel

Blimey! That must have been scary for you. Six hours! Bet you were glad to get home after that. Hope the next one goes more smoothly. Hopefully it will as they now know what to do. Have a rest now. You deserve it. x

Hi @sallychloe. Just wondered how you’re doing as you’ve been quiet for a while. Do you have any more chemos lined up? Hope you’re ok. x

Hi Kitty, i hope your treatment is going well. In on the exact same regime as you, but started 4 weeks ago so no notable side effects yet. How are you feeling?x

Hi I am almost at the half way point, just 2 more weekly taxel then straight onto EC every 3 weeks. Feeling ok - biggest issue for me has been stomach issues/pains plus a couple of infections when my blood count was low for a couple of weeks. I am getting a good response so far so all worth it
Hope you find it ok xx

How are you all doing? I’m doing a lot better since they changed me to weekly paclitaxel instead of 2 weekly and I’m feeling a lot more alive! The infusion takes a lot longer than it should as they have to run it through a lot slower so I don’t get another reaction but I can take that. Another 6 to go then radiotherapy, tamoxifen and zoladronic acid!

Hi. That all sounds a lot more encouraging. You’ll get there.

I had my last chemo today. Yay! Had three EC and four docetaxel. Not too bad at the moment but steroids are keeping me awake. Been getting nosebleeds recently but apparently that’s normal. Hoping my hair will start growing back in the next couple of months.

I have an appt to see the breast surgeon on 4 March. Had single mastectomy before chemo but I now need full lymph node clearance on the same side. That should be in about 6 weeks time, followed by radiotherapy and hormone therapy. It’s a lot but I do feel that I’ve passed another big hurdle with the chemo over.

We’ll all look back on this one day and say that we did it!

Take care. x

Hi. I’m doing ok thank you. I’ve really struggled not only with treatment and side effects but emotionally too. Not knowing whether I’d be having 6 cycles or 4. Feeling like I am giving up if I had the 4 battling the adjuvant aspect and not feeling worthy to be on here struggling when in effect my cancer has gone. Feel like I’m shadow boxing in the dark!!! It’s all been a bit of a mess!! Anyway glad I’ve popped back in to see you guys going strong through the challenges. Thank you it has been really encouraging to read your posts. Please do let us know how surgery goes :pray:t2: lots of love to all. Xx

Hi @sallychloe. Lovely to hear from you. Sorry it’s been a struggle. Please don’t ever feel unworthy. Everyone has their own problems and challenges of one kind or another and we’re all in this together, whatever! Even when we come out the other side, it’s not easy to just move on. Thank you for your good wishes. Keep in touch. x

Yes those bloody steroids, I have a love hate relationsip with them too - preventing reactions is great, but other than that they’re a pain in the arse - literally and figuratively lol, and lying in bed for hour after hour not being able to sleep isn’t much fun either!

Brill that you’ve got over the chemo hurdle, booo that you’ve got the clearance to come next and I hope it goes well for you. Let us know xx

Sallychloe, you’ve a right to all of those thoughts and feelings. It’s a horrible predicament we’re all in and we all have good days and bad days. I felt a failure when my body couldn’t take the 2 weekly paclitaxel and worried that the lower doses wouldn’t work, but the symptoms are a lot easier to deal with - well other than the constant fatigue!

Be kind to yourself - you’ll get there xx

Hi. Just checking in. How is everyone doing at the moment?

I saw breast surgeon last week and have a date for lymph node clearance - 3 April. Not too long to wait. I had a nasal infection last week and rang chemo team who were not able to help. I think as I was two weeks past my last chemo they weren’t really interested. Told me to contact my GP so I did and I was given some cream, Naseptin. Seems to have sorted out the problem.

Hope you’re all doing reasonably ok. x

Hi that’s good you have a surgery date.
I had finished my pac/carb and had my first EC 2 weeks ago but ended up in hospital for 6 days with neutropenic sepsis. Was on IV antibiotics and fluids for 6 days and am on oral antibiotics now. Also had a blood transfusion when I was in. Starting to feel better now although still get breathless. They have delayed my next EC by a week and are reducing my dose by 15% so hopefully it won’t happen again.
Hope you feel ok now after your nasal infection
Hope everyone else is doing ok x

Oh no! That sounds awful. Poor you. So pleased you’re starting to recover now. Take it easy and hope you’re ok next time. Do you have people around at home to look after you? x
