Now Spinal Cord Compression - anyone else had this

I have been recovering from my Hip Replacement Op which I had 3 1/2 weeks ago and although the hip is coming along fab, I have been experiencing pain and tingling feelings on the opposite side. My GP treated me for colic but I saw my onc on Wed who sent me for an MRI on Friday and it appears that I have a fractured vertibrae which is causing some spinal cord compression, and although it is not bad enough for me to be admitted immediately it will still mean having surgery again next week to sort this out.

I’m so disappointed, I was due to start capcetabine this week which had been delayed due to the hip op, now it will be delayed again and I wonder how dangerous this is to keep delaying this treatment.

I can’t understand how my scans usually never show much change in my bone mets but just recently they seem to be causing me big problems.

Hi Linda

I was found to have spinal cord compression by complete accident back in 200. I was having an MRI brain scan where I was found to have C3/4, C4/5 vertebrae impinging on my spinal cord. I had probably been living with it for some time, maybe even from birth and as I had no history of accident either the Neurosurgeon I was referred to was happy to leave it alone. This is unless it starts to give me problem with my limbs ie. numbness, tingling, loss of sensation in which case I will have to have surgery.

Good luck with your surgery - I’m sure it will all go fine. They can do amazing things nowadays and as with bc just take it really easy let others look after you, let your body tell you what it will tolerate and no heavy lifting for the foreseeable future :).
