Hello! I have finished 8 rounds of chemotherapy 2 weeks ago and due to start radiotherapy in 2 weeks and now panicking about the way my breast/underarm feels. I had a lumpectomy followed by lymph node clearance 7 months ago now and all under my arm and side of my breast still feels pretty numb, hard and lumpy. I do know this is probably scar tissue and remember my BCN telling me it can take up to a year to heal but i thought it would feel a bit more normal by now? Anyone else had similar issues and can reassure me this is normal??
Morning Laurapts,
Thank you for sharing your message today, just letting you know, you are not alone in this.
I too had a lumpectomy, two in fact last one for clear margins 5 years ago, my breast, whats left of it is still quite lumpy from scare tissue and numb in areas, including the area around where my lymph nodes were removed. The scare itself has healed and hardly noticeable now.
I massaged the areas every day just to stop the scaring and internal tissue from becoming hard and painful.
Sending hugs, with your ongoing treatment in two weeks time. If you can let us know how you get on.
Thank you so much for your reply! That is reassuring to hear, although sorry you still have these feelings too. Will try massaging to see if that helps! Thanks again for your kind words!
