October 2015 Chemotherapy starters - please join!

Hi ladies,

I must admit I’ve now been hairless for 2 days, and it does feel rather nice now, love being inside and not having to wear anything on my head.

My bloods have all come back good, so my treatment has been authorised so FEC2 tomorrow it is then.

we will get up and pack the van away, hook up and head home for my 3.15 appt, I’m a bit apprehensive as I think I got away fairly light with the SEs first time round, so a bit worried I might not be as lucky thus time. I gave my lorazapem ready for tonight and tomorrow to relax me.

Emma I live watching the planes fly over, they are so close, I’m fascinated by them.

has anyone head from Barry lately, just wondered how Nikki was getting on.

love to all, Jayne x

Evening all. Just back from seeing Spectre which was a nice distraction. Alas no Daniel Craig in his swimwear however!

Good luck tomorrow Jayne. I’m also feeling nervous about Friday as I feel I had it so easy last time and can’t believe I’ll be so lucky again.

Have to go for my bloods early tomorrow and hoping all okay. Still very tired and nose a bit runny but I suppose that’s only to be expected.

Off for a nice bath and an early night. Sleep well everyone. xxxx

I’m just back from seeing spectre as well.  Sadly I fell asleep at the beginning so had no idea what was going on!!!  The tiredness has really hit in the last couple of days, but in a Bond movie?  Really?! Grr!

It’s good to know you are comfortable now Jane.  Good luck for tomorrow.  Let’s hope your experience is as good as it was last time.  Good luck with your hair loss Chris.  I’ve got my blood test tomorrow ahead of FEC2 on Friday.  Not looking forward to it as I know I’m checking out of my life for a week or so.  Still, one treatment closer to being finished.

Night all.  Sweet dreams of full heads of fabulous hair. Xx

Hello ladies

one week away from FEC2 and hair has started to come out quite dramatically. Seem also to be having some digestive disturbances with some ferocious rumblings.  Trying to decide the optimum time for clippering and actually now that it has started, I don’t feel as panicky.  Good luck to all with next treatments this week julie

Morning all.  Glad to hear you are feeling better Jojo.  It’s amazing what happens to a house when the woman is out of action!

Did you cold cap Julie?  My bald patch is coming along nicely.  Is there any way we can attach pictures to this thread?  Does anyone know?

Blood test today.  I think it will be my last day out without a hat.  In a way it will work well as I won’t be out for the next week anyway, so it won’t appear sudden.

Good luck today Janey.  Let us know how you get on.

Have a good day all.

Morning everyone.

Emma D, I was worried about falling asleep in the cinema last night as they had those luxurious reclining chairs and I was so sleepy.

Glad you are feeling better Jojo. I’m hoping that I’ll be able to do some post-FEC2 steriod fuelled tidying of the house and garden over the weekend. Last time I felt quite manic for a few days afterwards.

Definitely more shedding today. I can no longer blame the cats for it being their fault!

Off to have bloods done now. Hope you all have a good day. xxxx

Morning ladies,

Hi Janey - I’m still about and doing well, thanks for asking

Starting to feel a little apprehensive about FEC2 next Thursday, although my BCN has told me that the side effects you have from session 1 is usually what you will have all the way through now; she also assured me that they won’t get any worse but they will last a little longer each time. So, I know what’s coming, but still feeling nervous.

Day 15 FEC1 - all hair still intact (obviously pleased about the hair on my head but the rest of my body is now in desperate need of shaving and my eyebrows really need plucking!)

Good luck with FEC2 today Janey, and good luck to Ruth, Chris and Emma D tomorrow.

Glad to hear you’re feeling better Jojo.

Nikki xx

Hi Rosie, thank you for passing on your experience. I can see bald patches today and so think I will bite the bullet and get the clippers out this evening, and I am feeling ok about that.

Has  anyone tried any of the eyebrow/lash products, eg liposil or revitalise, was wondering if they were worth a punt, really would like to hold on to the eyebrows and lashes. I also watched a YouTube tutorial by baldy beautiful, really very good and she recommends castor oil.

next chemo, next Thursday, getting picc line in on Monday, bit nervous of that procedure but can see the overall benefit as my veins have left the building. Keep well ladies, julie

Hi Julie, I’m trying the Liposils after a recommendation by someone else on this site. I’ve only done one FEC so far but my brows seem to be hanging on just fine and in fact some grey hairs seem to have grown in the last week! Might be too early to tell but I’ll carry on. I’m not bothering with my lashes as they have always been so wimpy anyway that it’s not worth it.

Rosie, thanks for joining us and welcome to the thread.

Barry/Nikki, nice to have you both back over here. Barry, my appetite seems to have calmed this week unlike around days 5-10 post-steroids when cravings for a family-sized bag of Doritos hung over me constantly! Kale smoothies today.

xx

I’m off to google liposils.  My eyebrows and eyelashes are probably what is bothering me the most.  I really want to hold onto them if I can.

Blood test and a chat th the registrar this morning.  We went through the side effects from last time, and she is going to give me something else for the constipation, but otherwise leave the meds as is.  Can’t wait for the eagle conversations to start again.  ;-))

i’m sitting with a glass of prosseco.  Not sure what I’m celebrating but it seemed to tickle my fancy.  FEC2.  I’m coming to get you…possibly with a hat on!

Hi all,

well i I had my FEC 2 late this afternoon, my appt was at 3.15, having took a double dose of lorazapem for ,y needle phobia, but to be honest, still as anxious as owt about it. Three nurses and 4 attempts to get a vein, one even ‘burst’ as they called it, so my hand is very tender and bruised at the mo. Got home about 6:45 and I’m just chilling in the bath waiting in anticipation again. We will just jphave to see what the evening night brings.

Barry/Nikki, good to have you back and hope you haven’t been suffering too much.

JoJo, I looked on YouTube for scarf tying tutorials, some were very good and may be worth a look.

good kick to tomorrow’s ladies, hope it treats you kind.

jayne xx

Please excuse the predictive text, I’m sure you get my drift ?

Glad you are home safe Jayne but ouch about your poor hand. Hope you get a good night’s sleep.

xx

Haha Ruth. Nikki mentioned your doritos as she’s been craving pizza, chips etc. No kale smoothies for her until after treatment I think. Plenty of broccoli though

Jayne, I bought Nikki lipocil on the same recommendation to Ruth x

Ouch Jayne, that sounds painful! Glad to hear you’re home and relaxing. Hope your side effects are minimal.

Ruth, I did have to get some doritos after you mentioned them, haha. My appetite is back to normal this week too. Between days 5-10 I swear I was eating for a small community! I was hungry all the time but somehow managed to lose weight. I had a huge craving for pizza…well, more the melted stringy cheese (cheese on toast was a good substitute for the pizza)

Well done Jayne.  Another one checked off!!!  Sorry about your hand.  Have they discussed a port, or did you say you have good veins?  Sorry, can’t remember who that was.

i’m now in bed and off early in the morning for my appointment at 9.30.

Good luck Ruth and Chris.  I’ll be thinking of you both.

Emma D xxx

Yep, reaching out the virtual hands to you all for tomorrow and will be holding on tight.

Sleep well everyone. xxxx

Hi Emma, I did mention a port or pic line, as I said will it be like this next time, they said lets hope not!, my veins aren’t good, they look great on the outside but as soon as a needle goes in they bend and shrivel up, also my veins are very sore and feel bruised to touch  from the first chemo and they said this can happen, they can harden and discolour from the outside, like a drug taker with track marks, lovely!, they said to speak with my onc as there is some cream that they can give you.

on the SE side nothing major to report, but when I get out of bed I’ve got yo start on my major concoction of drugs, I’ve had to write them all down this time, with their timings, I’ve got 2 different anti sickness ones, steroids, something for the heartburn, 2 lots of stuff for constipation, and dome vials I have to mix for a mouthwash and they all have to be taken at different times and different does.

Good luck today ladies, hope to hear from you later.

Jayne…

Virtual hands outstretched here as well.  Xxxxx

Pleased to hear you are doing ok Jayne.   Good that they’ve adjusted medication accordingly.

Hi Janey, just popping in from Sept. I thought I had great veins and would have no problems but how wrong was I. The 1st time it took 5 attempts and the 3rd time took 6 attempts. As your veins get worse with chemo I asked for a port to be fitted. Although it is a bit bruised at the moment it is a relief that the chemo staff will not be butchering me any further. I am hoping it can be left in for the whole of the Herceptin as well. All the best with your se. I am starting Taxotere next week and am dreading the whole new range of effects coming my way. I would love to be one of that raw breed who sail through with no problems. I have just managed a whole cycle without ending up in hospital so the extended GCSF inkections, as well as everyhing else has really helped. Hang on in there, it is another one ticked off. Big hugs for the next few days. xx
