Good morning all, hope everyone is doing as well as they can be . Sorry i’ve not posted for a while, took a little break from forum.
@poptart so sorry to hear about the confusion re number of treatments you still have to have. This must have been such a shock , because we really do need to know where the end of the tunnel is. Hope this is clarified for you very soon. xx
@lumpybyebye That’s ridiculous the time frame offered re addressing your allergy situation - really don’t think you should have to go private , but sometimes we get sick of bashing our heads against the same wall. At least it sounds like you’re all set to go now with rads, must at least be good to know what’s happening and when. Good tip re long gloves, and generally to prep for freezing conditions… Enjoy IKEA!
@tessie86 glad to hear your bloods are good and all set to go for surgery. One step further along !
Thanks @poptart@dani_321@mummyk@Jaygo@poptart, @dilly@loupy for all your advice and sharing your experiences re peripheral neuropathy. So, I saw my oncologist on Tuesday and he felt that, looking at the pattern of progression from cycle 1 to cycle 2 of docetaxel, the PN was quite serious and would almost certainly get worse with another treatment, with possibility of being long term/permanent. He said that as was not a huge amount to gain from having one more cycle of adjuvant chemo ( I will have got most of the benefit from teh treatments I’ve had already.) I could choose to cancel my final chemo cycle. He left it with me to make the choice.
That’s why I hid from internet for a while as i didnt want to drive myself mad by googling like a mad person, wanting to reach my own decison on this. Over next few days pain got worse esp in my heels, agonising burning pain kept me awake at night. Has lessened slightly now, but I’ve finally made and infromed them of my decision to cancel final treatment and go straight on to radiotherapy! Phew!!! It feels like the right decision for me. Now I need to refocus on radiotherapy, but need to take a deep breath first.
@nib32 that sounds like the right decision, as would be a huge worry to have that become permanent, especially as it already seemed to be getting worse without the 3rd dose! Great that they allowed you the ability to decide so it wasn’t something else taken away from you!
@nib32 I’m glad you’ve made your decision and that you’re happy with it. Your onc would not have offered you that if they didn’t feel there had been enough chemo delivered to ensure a thorough job has been done with it.
My experience of RT was fine, the time to travel to and from appointments being the biggest bind, but the actual treatment was quick and painless.
Thank you so much @Jaygo . Barely started to think about the process yet, still in chemo headspace! I’ll be going to Mount Vernon, where did you go? Potentially only 40 minutes drive but will depend on what time over day I’ll be tackling the M25!
@nib32 I was Mount Vernon as well. They are lovely there. Yes the M25 can be a pain as you don’t need me to tell you, but see what wiggle room they can offer you with times. x
Mastectomy ladies - has anyone ordered from the company BOOST? They’ve got really good reviews but also quite expensive so just wondered if anyone had one?
@loupy I’ve just had a peep! They certainly look interesting but so spenny. One thing I would say is that with Knitted Knockers you can order your actual bra/cup size rather than small, medium, large, etc, and it’s free (you can make a donation). I’m waiting for mine to arrive but I have high hopes. I have a less common size (32DD) and the prostheses from the hospital just didn’t work for me as the shape was all wrong.
So far in my very limited experience it seems to be very much trial and error to discover what works for you…but that’s really hard to do as so much out there is really expensive. At the moment I’ve had real success with the M&S mastectomy bra for £10 (£8 after the vat discount). I’ll report back when my knitted knocker arrives!!
@dilly my knitted knockers arrived yesterday, I’ve not tried them yet as only had op yesterday so bit sore to start messing with stuff the boost ones are a bit on the expensive side which I don’t mind if it’s worth it! I’m going to wait until I’m healed and see how I feel then, also going to order that bra from M&S too! Thank you for the link for that x
Fab news @dilly - I’ve ordered the M&S bra and insert too just to see what that’s like, very early days for me but think it’s very much trial and error - hope you enjoyed your brunch xxx
