October 2025 chemo starters

I woke up in a fuck it kind of mood today and dyed my hair. Feel more like me again albeit with a pixie cut rather than my long curls. I use a semi permanent dye (L’Oreal Castings) and my research confirmed it wouldn’t cause my hair to fall out, but that my scalp may be more sensitive m, so I did a patch test and then went for it. I ended up doing it twice as it was a bit light the first time, probably as my hair was pretty white grey. It’s given me a boost.

Thanks for the radiotherapy info as I have my planning scan in a couple of weeks. @lumpybyebye is there a reason you use a spray moisturiser immediately and then a cream at home? Just speed/convenience?

@Mairead_49 Love this, taking back control of your hair! I hadn’t seen my parents in a couple of weeks and when they saw me they said they could see a change in my hair, very exciting! Have started using Rosemary Oil, apparently its meant to be good for growth

@Mairead_49 go you! Would you feel up to posting a picture? No worries if not but it would be lovely to see how the colour takes on post chemo hair. x

Hello @Mairead_49 it is purely down to speed with easy application, lack of sink in changing room and that it absorbs quickly. In and out today in 15mins

I went to the hairdressers last month and got the pixie dyed def makes you feel more like yourself. A month on colour is still great as hair is so very dry it doesn’t need a lot of washing :winking_face_with_tongue:

@tessie86 I went for my chat last week and was told scan in 2-3 weeks and then radiotherapy 2 weeks ish later, the chat goes through the list of side effects, my husband said I was just rolling my eyes most of the time, like ok I’ve got to have it these can’t be any worse than chemo :joy:

@loupy i was the same with side effects spiel. My OH asked intelligent questions but I just couldn’t be bothered! As you say, can’t be as bad…..

@loupy skin patch test first. Just do it. Takes quite a bit longer to take but worth a bit of 'normal ’ hated grey fuzz!

@jaygo here you go!

@loupy semi-permanent dyes generally have less harsh chemicals. I used L’Oreal Castings and did a patch test first as from my research, the risk is to do with your scalp potentially being more sensitive. So once I knew my scalp was fine I just went for it, and I’m only 2 weeks out of chemo tomorrow.

Oh @Mairead_49 i love it!

@lumpybyebye I need to be in the right mood but might give it a go - the grey is not me! Although I don’t think mine is nearly as long as either of yours!

@nib32 glad it wasn’t just me :joy:

Gah…

When I had my last blood test a week ago, my neutrophils were a bit low at 1.2 (apparently my target is 1.5). Then I had my last chemo 2 days later.

I was sent home with 3 days of Filgrastim injections which I finished yesterday.

I’m supposed to be having my port removed on Thursday but the consultant said he won’t do it unless my neutrophils have improved (he didn’t say to what level) so I had to go for a last minute blood test this afternoon.

I’ll find out tomorrow if I can have the procedure on Thursday.

Please send positive vibes my way ladies - I really need to get this port out of me. It’s been a pain metaphorically and physically since I had it put in last October. I cannot wait to get it out of me.

Also, I’m supposed to be having my radio mark up appointment next Tuesday, but if I don’t have my port out on Thursday I might then have to wait to have it removed until after radio is complete in May (something to do with the port procedure affecting the precise measurements and markings of the radio mark up?)

@poptart Everything crossed especially my wonky nipple!
Can you not argue for port removal and they can use a cannula for any bloods / fluids? Or is it because of medical procedure to remove and infection risk?

The initial mark up is seriously precise including position on bed, arms, shoulders, head, butt. Everything.
I’ve been laid down in arm things thinking they’re ready to go, having moved bed up down and side to side but then they manhandle me into a position by cms here or there. Weird being moved about, not allowed to help - accurate placement. I get that if they measure you for position guided radiation based on how your skin is stretched etc then port removed it would be all different - need another measure session. Can they not slot in another?
I hope your neutrophils are raised up to the right level and the transition from chemo to rads is smooth. All crossed.
Come and join the glowing shitty titties!
