October 2025 chemo starters

Agreed, I found radio much easier physically than chemo, but each session was way worse emotionally than actual chemo treatment day! Totally get it :white_heart:

I relate to every single word of this & experienced very similar. . . If my brain hadn’t blocked so much of it out then i might just be able to articulate it as well as you have. X

I’ve definitely said a lot that radiotherapy won’t be as bad as chemo, but thinking about it, I think its self protection more than anything else. I’ve gotten through chemo so I should be able to get through radiotherapy as the side effects don’t tend to be so extensive, and it’s 3 werks rather than 5 months, and no cold cap etc. I think the issue is when others say it to us, as that can be minimising the seriousness and the invasiveness of the treatment. But generally people’s intentions are good, just the delivery can be a bit shite.

@dilly that resonates with me, the struggle with people touching you during radiotherapy. I didn’t realise it would be touching every session so I’ll have to mentally prepare for that.

@Jaygo amazing news! Well pleased for you!

I’m feeling a bit anxious today as I’m going into the office for the first time tomorrow in 6 months. I’m conscious that I look very different and I’ve actually had to introduce myself to a number of people I haven’t seen for some time - but that’s also because I lost 6st before diagnosis anyway, so with the change of body and a short pixie cut it’s not surprising really. Even I look back at pictures from a few years ago and see someone else!

Best of luck for tomorrow @Mairead_49 . x

@Mairead_49 it is definitely a sensory overload, not just the touching, but the noise of the machine and also music playing at my hospital too

Good luck tomorrow too! X

@dilly I find the worst sensory issues for me in any hospital are the lights and constant noise

Hi ladies,

I feel like today was a pretty big milestone for me - I went out without any headwear on for the first time :anxious_face_with_sweat:, I was so worried about it, and feeling so self conscious, but I think it did me good getting that first time out of the way!

I hope everyone is doing well and everyone starting new things next week gets on ok :folded_hands:t2::sun::star::two_hearts:

@tessie86 Yes please do! You never know our paths may cross..

@Mairead_49 Best of luck for tomorrow. I’ll be thinking of you.

If you don’t mind me asking (and if you do, please just tell me to mind my own business) How did you manage to lose 6 stone? That’s very impressive :star_struck:

Thanks so much ladies, it was a big step - I’m much more comfortable in a wig or a turban! But I’ll have to do it sometime, so today was as good a day as any!

@nib32 @loupy it seems to have suddenly picked up speed the last 2 weeks - even my other half said he feels like it’s almost visibly longer every day at the moment :joy: , so keep faith! Mine was attractively sporting a stubborn bald patch at the front for ages , which has thankfully pretty much filled itself in now. It’s definitely thinner in that patch than the rest of my head, but I’m just grateful there’s some there at all now!!

Keeping everything crossed that the imminent ribociclib doesn’t affect my new hair that’s trying its best! :crossed_fingers:t2:X

Thanks ladies! I’m pretty anxious this morning. I feel like I’m going back to work for the first time even though I’ve been working from home all this time.

@poptart I used Mounjaro. There’s no way I could’ve done it without the help, I certainly tried everything over the years! I had the approval of my Oncologist to continue on it throughout chemo but I had breaks when I suffered with piles and then being unable to eat anyway. All power to people who don’t need the help of a GLP1 but my body and mind aren’t on my side when it comes to weight loss.

All the best for today :cherry_blossom:, hope it goes well!

Good for you @Mairead_49 I think that’s amazing and you must be so proud of yourself.

Best of luck at work today. I bet after an hour or so it will feel like you’ve never been away

I’m having one emotional day and it’s not even 9am! Think I’ll just go back to bed :joy: but waiting for the BCN to ring me back as found a lump near my mastectomy scar - it’s hard and doesn’t move, one step forward….ten back :woman_facepalming:t2:

Oh @loupy I hope your BCN calls you back soon. How worrying for you.

Here’s hoping it’s just surgery scar tissue or something like that.

Thanks @poptart you’re spot on been to the hospital to see BCN who managed to fit me in with the surgeon who examined it and the minute he felt it said oh this is scar tissue - even though I couldn’t move it he could and told me nothing to worry about….phew can’t go through all that again!

I just wonder how long it will take me to get over the panic of feeling a new lump or bump!
