October 2025 chemo starters

AHH thank you. My appointment is 9:30 so I will update you Wednesday when I can with how it went.

Thank you. My appointments so far have been in Prince Philip Llanelli but have been told when I have Radio it will be in Singleton Hospital Swansea.

Ahh ok thanks for that at least I know what to expect Wednesday I’ve just been told to discuss my treatment moving forward so that makes sense.

Hope you are keeping well. X

Ooh my friends have bought me some compression socks! Perhaps I’ll get some gloves too…
I’ve decided, for various reasons, not to cold cap, but would like to do anything that might help prevent neuropathy!

I think that’s it, there are pros and cons at all ages aren’t there.

I also saw the Asda range and have got one of the sweatshirts ready for next week - it’s actually really good for the price, generously sized, nice soft and comfy!
Also had semi permanent make up done on my brows last week as I really will struggle if I lose them! I think that would make me feel so naked, and change your face so much. So I’m glad they’re done in time!

I’ve done similar, I saw lots of people recommending putting a ‘chemo caddy’ together to keep nearby when resting at home, so I’ve been doing that too.

My lovely friends also put me a care package together, with some really thoughtful things in, including a lovely soft cashmere beanie hat

Hey all,
I had my pre assessment appointment today at my local hospital. Paperwork overload, wow. Can’t offer me a PICC for TC yet due to staffing, so mid arm cannula. Couldn’t find my e-referral from Oncologist; offered to start me on Wednesday 1st October via phone calls with booking clerk as I sat there. I said yes. Clinical nurse then left to get something she’d forgotten. By the time she came back and I’d stopped stress swearing, head spinning and nausea rising, I got my appointment moved to 6th. All of it seemed a bit rushed (ironic after so much waiting) and muddled. Basically a day to get a lot of quacking ducks organised. Today has whelmed. Some bits over, others under. Just felt like I was on a treatment treadmill and detatched. So many questions now at bedtime. This time next week it’ll be post first treatment. Mad scary.

Absolutely. My hair is quite thick and i wanted to ensure the cold gets to the eoots better. I know it will go patchy - can’t be avoided with TC but hope cold cap will aid healthy regrowth. I’m trying to think later after treatment. But, if I hate the ice headache, chin strap etc I will just get a #2 head clip done. Postponing looking like my Dad for as ling as possible, lol.

@lumpybyebye mine’s been a muddle here too. It’s all been a mad rush after a 3 week delay, and I’m having my chemo prep appointment today over the phone before I start tomorrow! I didnt even know I would need steroids the day before, day of and day after chemo until yesterday, but we managed to collect them in time.
It’s good you’ve got a week now to be able to get yourself sorted and head straight(ish!) before it all kicks off x

Good luck @slc1 let us know how it goes! Xx

I received my adaptive clothing from Asda today and I’m so impressed! I got a green hoody (£20) and a striped long sleeve tshirt (£12). Really good quality with full sleeve zips or chest zips for access. Thumbs up from me although I can’t test them until chemo starts.

Hi all, I’m starting chemo tomorrow. 12 weekly sessions of Paclitaxel, then 4, fortnightly rounds of EC. I had a lumpectomy in July for a Stage 1, Grade 3 tumor, ER +, HER - with clear lymph nodes, but high onocotype score, hence the chemo.
My name is Anne and I have a lovely wife and two daughters age 8 and 10.
I hope you are all doing ok. It feels like there has been a lot of waiting to get to this point and I’m not sure how to feel about tomorrow but I am dreading getting the picc fitted.

Hay guys
i’m now home on the sofa!
It’s been a very long first day!
But wow the staff were amazing!
So i have cold capped so obviously makes the day a lot longer!
weirdly i’m not sure how i mis- read but the cold cap stayed on the whole time!
i thought it was half an hour before and a hour and a half after but that’s extra as well as the whole treatment.
so PICC worked great
Have a chemist of meds!
i saw a post about steroids before treatment but maybe just what i’m on they gave it to me whilst i was there IV and oral steroids to start tomorrow.
Genuinely i feel ok so far!
if anything a slight wolly head however i did get new glasses on sunday and maybe bad time as my eyes always take a while to adjust.
So please try and remain calm the day was really manageable!
Just to await if symptoms appear :see_no_evil:
Take care you wonderful bunch xx

Hay and welcome!!
Please try and think tomorrow is gunna be the start of the next stage!!
Also having your PICC tomorrow it honestly for me was just a little sting for the local. So please rest assured it really wasn’t as bad as i worked myself up to!
i will also be having weekly Paclitaxel and three weekly Paclitaxel/carbo and immunotherapy for 4 rounds then 4 more rounds of EC and immunotherapy!
honestly getting to this point the day before treatment starts would have been the hardest ride ever but tomorrow honestly i hope for you your start to know what will be going on and start to fill in the gaps!
Good luck and keep us all updated!
I also have a 10 year old and 4 year old! :smiling_face_with_three_hearts: xx

Hi @capricorn I’m starting tomorrow too, so we’re not alone x

@slc1 well done for getting through the first one and thanks for letting us know how it went. Not sure what you mean about the cold cap timing? My understanding is that you wear it for a period of time before the chemo starts, then keep it on through the chemo infusions, then they turn it off, and you wear it for a bit longer to thaw out before taking it off. Is that what you found today? And how did you find the cap in terms of pain?

@dilly and @capricorn good luck for tomorrow! Hope it all goes well for you and please let us know how it goes for you xx

Hay Sorry i wasn’t very clear.
Yes you are correct so half an hour before treatment and during all infusions and 90mins following! So having three different treatments today the cap was on from 9am till 2.40ish.
So a long time but just take nice soft and warm snuggly clothes and blanket and honestly i managed fine.
Shivery at times but it was ovs intensely cold!
Pain wise the first 10 mins they said if u can get through that you’re fine and tbh they were correct! Just distract yourself for the first 10 mins.
Being my first treatment i took my mum so she just talked crap to me which was great :joy:!
I have also managed a walk tonight to clear the head which is great!
Clearly the steroids probably still in the system but i’m rolling with it!
@dilly @capricorn
good luck tomorrow
You’ve got this!! xx
Love Sas xx

@slc1 thanks for the info and glad it went well.

@dilly @Mairead_49 thanks for wishing us luck. I’ll definitely update tomorrow

I’ve decided not to cold cap but will be using the suzipads ice gloves and socks to prevent neuropathy so didn’t think I could handle a cold head too. Also being putting polybalm on my nails to protect them. I’m not sure if I’m having steroids but I’ll find out tomorrow.
