odd glass wine

odd glass wine hi strange question but i keeo forgetting to ask the doc , do you think its ok to have the odd few glasses of wine when you have liver mets ? feels funny when you know whats goin on in there !
there is only a couple of days in the chemo cycle i feel like having a binge but dont know if its ok
thanks Tracy xxx

Cheers! Hi tracy

I have liver mets also,dx in 2005.I was really scared at first too about having a drink, but have now relaxed a little just been on a girls week to benidorm!

I think it really depends on how you feel, I don’t know the medical opinion regarding this but I would try a small bit and see how it goes.
Personally I have just taken things easy and played it by ear.

Have you just found out about liver mets? What treatment are you on?

I am two years down the line and have just had an amazing scan result. My liver is clear at the moment. There were many times in the beginning that I felt the cancer was so much bigger than me you will get there. Hang on to that please and have a drink if you want!
Anything that makes you relax for a bit can’t be all bad!

Let me know have you get on

HI Emma , i found out 3 months ago i have liver and bone mets .
i am on andrimicin chemo at the moment , have had 4 cycles and after the 2nd cylcle my tumours had shrank 60 % .
mu tumour markers started at 310 and now they are 66 so am doing very well. i cant do herceptin after as am her 2 neg , so after they are going to review , maybe arimidex or if the mets have gone they were mentioning leaving it for a while to see what happens , which i think is scary but i guess they know what they are doing.
I am still very nervous about the whole thing as i have a wonderfull husband and children and want to see them all grow up.
thanks for replying about having a drink , we all need a few sometimes especially on this rocky road i guess . thanks for reassuring me .
take care , speak soon ,
love Tracy xx

Hi Tracy I love my red wine! I was diagnosed with liver mets almost 2 years ago. I didn’t cut my drinking at that time but in an attempt to take better care of myself I have now limited myself to a few glasses at the weekends and lay off during the week. (Having said that, have some lovely fizz I must remember to put in the fridge tonight, for significant other’s birthday tomorrow. Oh, and some nice red to follow!)

There are a few users of this board who have seen me on the vino, so I thought I’d better own up before they give the game away …

Good news about your tumours, certainly deserves a celebratory glass in my book!

Love Jenny

Know what you mean about children and lovely hubby. Its the reason you feel so bad about having cancer but they are also the reason that you keep going.

In the first few months after dx with liver mets would cry every time I opened my mouth! But I promise will pass but may take time be kind to yourself everyone deals with stuff their own way you will turn that corner.

Take care tracy
Sending lots of hugs

Hi Tracy,

A little of what you fancy I say. I have the odd drink in moderation bit like Jen the odd glass at the weekend and still have days out etc. with friends where I have a drink. To be honest the chemo has put me off a lot of the things I like so hoping my taste buds come back soon. I wouldn’t have a heavy session these days less to do with liver mets and more to do with having a hangover before I even get home.

No-one has told me not to have any alcohol, our medics realise there’s a balance to be had with all of this bc stuff.

So have a lovely drink to celebrate your markers plummeting and the great success you are with your chemo.

Love Twinkle xoxo
