I am 68, had a lumpectomy in April 2007 followed by 3 weeks of radiotherapy which finished on 3 August. My lymph nodes were clear but I have been told that my cancer is hormone receptive + her2 receptive. I’m taking Arimidex but cannot have Herceptin because I’m not being offered chemotherapy, so have no weapon to fight the her2 aspect. I am doing my best to ensure my immune system is healthy and would love to hear from anyone else in the same boat as me as to what they are doing to try and fight this.
Hope there’s somebody out there.
hi valanne,
I am not quite in the same boat because firstly I am er/pr neg but when I was first dx back in 1990 herceptin wasnt around. I have had recurrences/new primary tumours on a few occasions since then but was given herceptin back in 2004 and it has certainly worked well for me. Hopefully for you there wont be recurrences but herceptin will be there in the ‘armoury’ at a later need if you need it. Keep well

Another HER2+/ER+/PR+ one here, though my FISH test was weakly positive. Had the same treatment as you and am on tamoxifen - no chemo.
I would suggest you take flaxseed or flaxseed oil on a daily basis, as this MAY be a natural inhibitor of HER2+ bc.

PS I am nearly two years out, and so far, so good …
Thanks for your replies. I’ll certainly try the flaxseed and the link. I’ve also read that olive oil is good so have been using it for cooking and am using olive oil spread instead of butter. I did have high cholesterol so had to give up butter anyway.
